Could be they just want some contractual wiggle room. If they can whittle away to about 5.0 PPA ( which I think is the goal ), if they are suddenly hit with a rash of retirements or resignations, they would have the room to hire and train to re-fill the ranks without violating the contract $$$$$.

Absolutely. The point is, the company wanted that number specifically for a reason. Whatever that reason may be, the company has planned a contingency in which that number is needed.

Some have speculated they wanted this language if they are able to slip in the retirement language for large 135 operators into law. This would allow them the wiggle room as they slowly hired. They tried last December but failed again.

Makes sense. Also makes sense if they wanted to offer a retirement package.

It has been said that BRK is not a fan of paying people to leave. Who knows if this is true or not but their actions do show this. The last retirement package wasn't that great and enough pilots took it to supplement them as they went to work for the airlines that they weren't too happy about it supposedly. Granted, airlines aren't hiring but that may change.

captains get paired together on trips. So it makes no difference how many FO’s there are.

The new contract has made it so NetJets won’t need to hire for the foreseeable future. Only for retirements.

People don’t retire from NetJets until they are too old and weak to fasten their seat belts

Totally clear. I won’t be working at NetJets. I got it.
I fly with a lot of ex-NJA/FLX and not a single one of them under any circumstance wants or would go back. Ever.

Are you perhaps limiting your field of vision?

It has been well established that he is, unfortunately.

It does go both ways. I fly with a lot of furloughed US Airways and American Airline pilots who elected not to return and stayed at NetJets. Another item is they seem to all say by far our union is run the best compared to ALPA and APA and our latest contract is just icing on the cake.

Having worked under NJASAP and ALPA, the saying is true to both, that the union is only as strong as its pilot group. The 2015 CBA was an embarrassment for NJA. It has gotten a bit better which is good, but we were sold over and over and over the NJA was an airline that deserved NJA wages, then NJASAP served that hunk of garbage for dinner and tried to sell it as caviar.

There is historical evidence to show where airline unions and ALPA have crapped the bed, hard. There is also clear evidence to support where NJASAP has done the exact same.
