Yeah, it is nice. That said, I flew with a guy who almost let me bust a hold short clearance on taxi because he didn't want to speak up. I don't think I'm an ogre in the cockpit, either. I just think it's a culture problem the company has that really needs to be addressed by the training department. I don't want to disparage the good ones, but a lot of FOs were coming online thinking they got to collect a paycheck and log time by going on airplane rides. As you well know, that's just not true. Ask my 9K pilot roommate; I can still put on a good 9K rant even though I've moved on, haha.

I would set it up like 121 then, swapping legs, challenge and response checklists, teach CRM. Can you guys switch seats at all, or just empty (FAR Part 91) legs?

I used to swap legs with the FO like clipperskipper said (though didn't swap seats). In fact, I never took a leg from the other guy if it was his turn in the rotation. FOs are in training for upgrade; can't hide from the bad weather and expect the ATP fairy to sprinkle you with that experience overnight.

Unfortunately, you can't fix stupid. There are a handful of Captains here who should NOT be working here. I've really only flown with 2 that need to get their stuff in check. I consider it babysitting the Captain.
And feltf4, you may want to get an attitude check. The FOs out in the Midwest bust their asses just as much as anyone else at the company. It must be nice to sit up there in the northeast, make your 35 min, and not have to work when the weather's crappy. Have fun with your $16,380 pre-tax though.
