Remember when you use to do that many legs in a morning, and still have the afternoon to go? How quickly things can change.

Truth be told, I miss that a lot.

Oh well, I hear hiring at Cape Air is really picking up. Last I heard though, they HATE furloughed DHL A300/A310 guys.

...hi Rob. Get back to work.

What has been the typical number of guys/gals in the new hire classes?

It varies some depending on FOs or interns, but looking at the most recent classes, seems to average 7-8 PICs/Captains per class. Probably gonna stay that way bc a lot of people in a class makes it hard to get an airplane since you have to compete with revenue flights for aircraft.

Commuting can be difficult but not impossible. All regions have outstation bases so you end away from the hub you will be commuting from so it turns any one leg commute ie. STL-EWR into a two legger ie. MWA-STL-EWR.

90% of our flying is done single pilot. So in turn 90% of our hiring is guys with or close to ATP mins as it's needed for single pilot scheduled 135. Rumor is our STL stuff will soon be single pilot, so that will decrease our need for first officers even more.

That may meet the PIC requirement, mail, freight, non-sched. The March class saw three F/O's, seven Captains I'm told.

thanks for the info. So a couple more questions: How would a commute from DFW look like, and what would live be like on an average week? Also, if i had the ATP mins, what would the multi requirement look like? And is it ATP mins or 135 mins? Single engine time is no problem for me, its that pesky Multi!

There is no multi engine requirement for the ATP. Commuting to STL region from DFW should be relatively easy. You'd probably have a 4 on 3 off schedule with mid week days off. STL is a junior base but there is nothing preventing the company from forcing you to go to a base north of Boston or down in Baltimore. The January class had 3 captains go to Fort Leonard wood, MO, 1 to Kirksville, MO, 2 to Lancaster, PA, 2 to Hagerstown, MD, and 1 is now in Saranac Lake, NY.

Sec. 61.159 Aeronautical experience: Airplane Category rating.
(a) A person who is applying for an airline transport pilot certificate with an airplane category and class rating must have at least 1,500 hours of total time as a pilot that includes at least:
(1) 500 hours of cross-country flight time.
(2) 100 hours of night flight time.
(3) 75 hours of instrument flight time, in actual or simulated instrument conditions:
(i) An applicant may not receive credit for more than a total of 25 hours of simulated instrument time in a flight simulator or flight training device.
(ii) A maximum of 50 hours of training in a flight simulator or flight training device may be credited toward the instrument flight time requirements of paragraph (a)(3) if the training was accomplished in a course conducted by a training center certificated under part 142.
(4) 250 hours of flight time in an airplane as a pilot in command, or as second in command performing the duties and functions of a pilot in command while under the supervision of a pilot in command or any combination thereof, which includes at least:
(i) 100 hours of cross-country flight time ; and
(ii) 25 hours of night flight time.
(5) Not more than 100 hours of the total aeronautical experience requirements of paragraph (a) of this section may be obtained in a flight simulator or flight training device that represents an airplane, provided this aeronautical experience was obtained in an approved course conducted by a training center certificated under part 142.
