So what is the flying really like now that the GWOT is slowing down? Are their published rotations really what their websites say? I have 300TPIC in a king air 200 but need to act soon as my security clearance goes inactive in OCT.

No one is safe. With the war winding down, the justification for money will as well. Unless a particular company is positioned to weather the storm, many will fall by the wayside. Some companies have already lowered their wages so dramatically that they are having trouble finding people willing to work for the little money.

If I were you, find a company that has interest elsewhere..meaning a more expansive business portfolio. Companies that do nothing but supply pilots, will not last in my opinion.

Also, look for companies that offer actual benefits and are well managed. Poor management cost employees. Remember, you are always at the whims of the company. If they promise you something, it does not mean it will happen.

Tread lightly and wisely.

Avenge new hire pay isn't what it was a year ago. No type rating required and 60 on 60 off is the norm. You can do more on anytime you wish.

Just phone interviewed for L-3 Vertex. ***********************Schedule of 60 on 60 off, no type required (at least for me). Company will send you to Simuflite in Dallas for type. Company training take 8 weeks on 40 hr week salary plus per diem. When you are home and not working you don't get paid but maintain benefits. If anyone wants more info, PM me.

If it helps anyone to know, I have 3600+ military turbo prop time with some IP/EP time. Haven't heard anything from any majors or LCCs so a job is a job. I am still keeping the other apps updated. Good luck to all.

Did you ask them what they have after the war winds down?

That pay is over twice what Avenge is offering their SIC's and about 70% more than their PIC's (new hires). No benefits...

I work at Avenge. While it is more than our new hire PICs it isn't 70% more.

However it is enough that many people joke that Avenge is L-3s training department because so many people jump ship for L-3.

I too thought about complaining about that but as another poster reminded me....Avenge was the one that hired me...the others did not....
The moral is, the grass is always greener, but you have to get INVITED to the other side...until then, there are other places that will give you a paycheck and let you earn that PIC spot/experience/time....so take it! Then move up when you can!

Africa Ops are already up and running at a number of companies...I expect all assets to flow there, especially Djibouti, where you can look at Yemen and Somali hotspots...
