Do you happen to know which companies are flying out of DJ? I think Dynamic is one but not sure. It would be neat to get back there but on the civ side.

Pretty much they all will be there sooner or later. Some are there now.

Still waiting to hear back from them since my November interview/job offer pending security clearance. In the mean time I landed a 121 Supplemental Cargo job.

Since someone brought up the movement of assets to support Africa, I wonder what will happen to pay with these operators? It is my understanding that a large portion of your pay is based on living in Afghanistan where it is considered hostile (they still shoot rockets and mortars at you).

Has anyone heard anything about what pay may be with operations outside of an active war zone?

I would feel a whole lot safer in Afghanistan than in some African countries.

It all depends on the company and the contract they support, but I have friends in Africa now that are making equal to those in Afghanistan. But don't fool yourself, its a war zone....there might not be as large of an organized army, but Al-Shabaab is very active in Somalia and Yemen and just recently targeted DJ with a suicide attack...I expect that it will get worse there before it gets better....IMHO.

I agree with JJ.. Safer here at Bagram/Kandahar/Shank than in 90% of Africa.

Irrelevant if it's not deemed a hostile fire zone by Congress/DoD. Pay will decrease - by 1/3-1/2.

Not true....like I said I have 3 people I served with in military now flying in Africa making the same as someone makes in AFG. And depending on the companies involved might make more! It's all based on the contracts....just because it might not be deemed a hostile fire zone does not mean that the pay will be less. Apples and oranges when talking AFG vs Africa.

Wow, never thought I would hear someone say it would be neat to get back to DJ. That's the worst place in the world.
