I meet PSA’s minimums, but I’ve been out of the cockpit for about a year and a half. I just completed a BFR and IPC and I’m currently working to build recent experience.
In terms of ‘flight time in previous 12 months’ how many hours would you recommend prior to applying?

I would also highlight in your interview that you have been getting back up to speed with procedures as well as gps/automation/glass. The jet is fast and some pilots have trouble hanging on to new aircraft, the last thing you need to be worrying about in the sim is how to physically fly the approach with an fms and glass avionics.

Thanks for the reply. It’s been almost four years since I’ve flown a high performance jet, so I’ll be a little rusty,
I’m sure. It’s just been GA flying since. I won’t apply until I think I’m where I need to be, skills wise. I don’t want to set myself up for failure in training.
I just didn’t know if there was a magic number—I know the majors like to see at least 100.

Seniority is everything and as it sits now you'd be about 3/4 of the way through the AA retirements IF you were to need the flow. That's a whole other discussion as to the metrics involved and if AA will be a good place to land in the close to 9 years you'll take to get there (if you even want a seat at AA). Get on it, knock the dust off and get to the interview. Study the Jepp charts (king schools has a good DVD refresher and Jepp has a printed guide), review IFR knowledge test type questions, and most importantly emphasize your desire to learn and become an asset to the company. Get your foot in the door ASAP.

I have similar hours to the previous poster and applied a couple weeks ago, I go the automated email saying to expect an email from recruiting but haven’t heard anything. I’m assuming that is due to the holiday season? I applied via airlineapps if that makes a difference.

There are people that have been out 10-15 years. While recruiters do see that as a negative, the good news is that we are undoubtedly in a pilot's market. My advice would be that you knock the dust off your IFR procedures (which it sounds like you have done). The training footprint does not allow time.for teaching basic instrument procedures, you need to know how to fly approaches/ifr.

I interviewed last year some time and even before my interview they pulled me out over my medical being out of date. I added the incorrect month and they told me bye. Should I reapply or is that pretty much it?

What is the timeline on applying/getting an interview and then class date? What minimum total time should I have before applying. I'm at 1100 and flying over 100 hrs/month. I should probably apply when I have - 1350hrs?

Thanks. I guess I will be applying a little sooner than anticipated. Need to renew my passport and 1st class.
I got started filling out the application on airline apps. Question, did they call any of your references and what types of questions were asked? Wondering who to put down.
