They have been there for quite a while. (SKW) They opened a base there almost 3 years ago and I am certain its a CRJ 700 base strictly. Could be wrong though. Mesa has the majority of all AA 900s there especially since PSA isn't in and out of there anymore now.

talked to someone else about it since posting, might have been the timing that made it seem like there was a lot of them, but also they were parked in high B gates, where Mesa 900s usually park, that's probably why I noticed

PSA's official stance is no "new" airframes and no new bases in 2021. But yet to be over staffed for when Doug is ready to unleashe the onslaught of regional pukes upon the unsuspecting traveling public this spring/summer.

Back in October, American renegotiated the contract with Skywest. Now they’re going up to 90 700s for American from the current ~60 in operation. Prior to COVID, Envoy had 40 140s, those are all gone along with PSA’s 200s as you know and Skywest had some AA 200s which are now gone. Envoy, Republic and Skywest are all adding 175s for AA.

AA isn't spending a dime on new or used airplanes, that includes for their WO regionals. It adds to their already problematic debt load. The only growth will be by contract regionals that finance their own airplanes; Skywest, Republic and Mesa.
Financially, the wholly owned carriers are going down with the AAG ship.

Its kind of why I’ve been perplexed by all this talk of PSA getting airplanes. I realize that 99% of regular line pilots don’t quite grasp what is going on here but there aren’t likely to be any more growth opportunities at the WOs unless AA decides to shut one down and shift the flying to another WO.

I think that question stems more from people wondering WTF we have 15ish crew per airplane vs the industry standard 10ish, not because they "too stupid to understand what's happening"

We have that many crews because were inefficient because of SAP..at least that is what everyone tells me.
