Is reserve at psa any more terrible than sitting reserve at any other regional. If so why?

It probably was one of the worst place to sit reserve. But we all share horror stories and think our own reserve was the worst but I sat rsv for two years and dreaded schedulers. Airline policy was to understaff and use the rsv to fill the rest. HOWEVER, things changed. I'm sitting rsv again but definitely not like before. They can't just fly you 'til 72 hours and make you sit hot rsv rest of the month. New schedulers are a lot nicer. Actually I heard a rumor our new president gave them a speech about never to talk to our pilots in a rude manner or they'll be looking for a new job.

He just taught them how to tell you to go "F" yourself while your being junior assigned. Ya' know however, he taught them the new and improved super sarcastic-happy voice like that redhead from the Wendy's commercials.
It'll never be rude ... But you'll be junior manning like a "B"

It's almost impossible to be junior manned involuntarily at PSA. A junior man assignment cannot supersede hours of service limitations, and then ACARS is not notification, or any of that other non-sense you see at many carriers. I really don't know how they can forcibly junior man someone other than a reserve with really really bad luck on a block of like 3 days of reserve.

Is there a problem with being stationed at TYS? Is there a reason a new pilot wouldn't want to be based there? (other than family location)
I heard there is not a reserve at TYS (or wasnt a couple of months ago). How long is reserve in CLT?

No. TYS is a great base, great crews, great people. The town is fun. It can be a commuters nightmare, but to each his own. Next month, TYS has some better flying than the same old overnights.

What is an example of a flight block out of TYS? (i.e. Day 1 to Day 3/4/5 of flying)
PSA is one of the airlines I am thinking of applying to when I retire in a couple of months (military). My wife is thinking of doing the PhD program at UT, TYS would be a great base for us if there isn't a professional drawback for being there.

I dont see any drawbacks.
A typical trip starts either in the morning, or afternoon, and is usually a 4 leg day, followed by either a 2 or 3 leg day, then 2 more 4 leg days and you're back early if you started early, or late if you started late

Figure 4 day trips. 20 hours block. 80 hrs TAFB.
Starts early day 1. May end late day 4.
It would be very rare that you get a TYS overnight.
