Wouldn't work out so well if they were in Europe backpacking on FO pay. Oh yeah, they also aren't in CASS until completion of IOE. Makes getting around a little tougher.
It's easy to avoid this problem. Go to a shrinking carrier that hires 5-10 pilots/month with slow, methodocal upgrades. PSA is suffering expansion constipation. That's better then the contraction diarrhea being experienced elsewhere.

That's simply not true.

It may be so at PSA, but at my shop I was in CASS by the second week of ground.

You are in CASS and KCM soon after completion of your checkride. Let's stick with facts please.

You are on the wrong forum for that.

Look at it from the point of view of someone who has no 121 time, would like to pick up 1000 hours of it in a fairly expeditious manner so that they can be in a position to upgrade, and then is kept waiting so that the DECs can go through their training and take those captain slots.

Paid vacation is nice, but if the regionals are to be a "get your time and get out" deal, getting your time is a big part of that equation.

Quick upgrades are not magic, you cannot go to a carrier experiencing extensive growth in-order to upgrade quickly, and then complain about the internal challenges that are associated with said growth. I mean you can, but it sounds ridiculous when compared to how the regional environment looked not too far in the past; yes things can move quicker, but it is because of a huge amount of people going through the training centers. Back when I was hired, if I would have been told that I could get on with a carrier and upgrade the moment I hit 1000 hours, but would have to incur some delays in training, do you really think I would have complained? I was staring the down the barrel of 6-7 year average upgrade time, which incidentally, is still not much more than the current average at many carriers. People need to start putting things in perspective. It is amazing what some will complain about here.

I'd be willing to give 1000 121pic away for a 5 week break.

It's not a "break" when you are still in training and still have to pass your oral and checkride. You have to keep studying to stay fresh on that information....otherwise too much time goes by and you get rusty. Having people in training sitting at home is the worse possible thing. Not to mention none of them are getting any flying time, and nowhere closer to the 1,000 hours needed to ever upgrade.

Sure, you can make cute remarks. But you are sitting on how much 121 time? Already upgraded? Until you pass all your checkrides and get off IOE nothing is a "break"....just perpetual limbo. I don't blame guys for being upset.
