so because I make more I’m supposed to tip more? I don’t think so. I’ve always done 1 dollar for airport hotels and 2 for longer trips ever since my first regional all the way to now at a major. Same as when I go to a restaurant, I don’t all of a sudden tip 50% now that I’m making more money. If a flight attendant doesn’t want to tip because she isn’t in a financial place to afford to, then that’s her business.

We get per diem to cover such expenses.

I used to, then I started tipping 2 or 3. I think it used to be customary to tip a buck a bag they’ve handled. I’ve tipped a $20 for both of us before. It was a holiday and the driver went out of his way to help us find food.
We usually don’t stay with our flight attendants so I don’t have the opportunity to “help them” but they usually always tip from what I’ve seen. It’s usually the pilots who have some anti-tipping agenda. But you do you. It’s apparent you’ve never worked in a restaurant or any other jobs where tips are your primary income. I’m sure you’re the type to blame the server for your food not being cooked right or the van driver personally for being late.

If you don’t think they sell these jobs to van drivers for minimum wage because “you’ll make an extra $50 or $60 everyday with tips” then you’re delusional.
I do feel that as a society we should move away from the tipping economy. It’s gotten out of hand and companies should pay a fair wage without the excessive tipping that’s become the norm. But if it’s customary then I’m not going to be a DB and stiff the guy or gal because I disagree with it. That’s their income they’re depending on and it isn’t my place to mess with it. Outside of a new regional FO or some outliers we all make enough money to throw the driver a buck or two. At least throw your own bags if you’re not going to tip.

But you mentioned restaurant staff, which most of them get paid less than minimum wage actually rely on tips with bussers, hosts getting a small cut. I know this from my previous experience in the restaurant industry. Can drivers aren’t anywhere close to being in the same category because at least they get min wage with some of them making more depending on their job (some drivers are just driving as a collateral duty) or property.
So no, stop it with the van driver to restaurant worker comparison because it’s obvious you haven’t worked in that industry either.
