How you file doesn't matter you will get our money back..... eventually. Your first year you will get a ton back from taxes. Take your stuff to a professional who deals with pilots. Talk to some guys on the line for references or PM me. It's well worth the money to go to a specialist. hope everyone had a good Christmas & happy new year!!!!

Nine exemptions should keep you from paying any income tax during the year. The only problem is, you will OWE at the end of the year, (unless you actually have 8 dependents). The idea of not paying during the year is good if you can invest the money that would be going to the Government every pay check. When you pay your taxes at the end of the year you'd be money ahead, if your investments made any money. I prefer to get somewhat of a return in April. Zero would take the maximum amount out of your paycheck during the year, and you would get the biggest return. Paying big bucks for a specialized accountant is NOT worth the money, unless you have a lot of complicated exemptions(businesses, investment property etc.) Otherwise, save the money and have a run of the mill tax preparer do it.

Yes it does. Universal UNS-1M

You will take a 1 day course at the end of training on how to use it.

NOT a good idea at all.

You get penalized by the government if you continuously owe money at the end of the year. Plus, that is way too much effort for such a small amount of money.

The tax system is very complex, but if I had to generalize I would say if you're single you should claim one. If you're married and your wife works (probably making more than you ) you should claim zero and consider checking the "married but withhold at the higher single rate" box.

If you're trying to come up with a budget for your paycheck, just plan on the 75 hour minimum (minus taxes, uniforms, etc.) plus maybe half of what you think you might get from per diem. Don't depend on anything more than that yet. If you get more hours or a larger per diem check, consider it a bonus.

Along those same lines, the best thing you can possibly do financially in the next few years is to live one year behind your current pay rate. If you're making $29/hr and flying 90 hours per month, make your standard of living match $23/hr and 80 hours per month. Your life will be a lot easier, and if you have aspirations of going to a major airline in a few years, it will be easier for you to accept the pay cut for the first year.
