How many employees do you think this company has? We don't have 5700 customer service employees + all of the unionized employees. As of today a few thousand employees were spun off and became Regional Handling Services. The memo say by fall the remaining few thousand will then become Regional Handling Services. That's what I don't get.

There were 5700 employees at comair and 3100 of them just got spun off into another company. the remaining 2600 would include unionized workgroups.

Here's the quote I saw (from Epic) -

Straight Talk: RHS Announcement, Operational Performance10-Feb-2009
In his most recent message, recorded on Tuesday, February 10, President John Bendoraitis talks to the Comair team regarding today's announcement about the formation of Regional Handling Services, specifically how the news is a "win-win" for Delta, Comair and our Customer Services team members.

"This is obviously a very big change for us, as with this announcement, Comair will reduce our overall size by nearly half, from about 5,700 to 3,100 employees," John said in his message. "The other 2,600 employees, who currently work in various capacities within our Customer Services organization, will become RHS employees as soon as this fall."

The 5700 is Comair today. 2600 will leave in the fall and become RHS. That leaves 3100 still at Comair (including pilots, FAs, MX, dispatchers, and potential CEOs).

I agree the paragraph could have been worded better. I don't think Bendo is saying that Comair is laying off 2600 employees now and then will lose another 2600 to RHS in the fall. That would leave Comair with around 500 employees, and when you subtract the potential CEOs and schedulers-in-training you're left with 34 crusty old pilots wondering why half of them are going to JFK as First Officers.

Fantastic...so those once-Comair employees turned now RHS employees will take paycuts and lose airline bennies. Why is that something to celebrate?? I found myself in that exact situation several years ago...

The QnA says this is why Comair's 55/EO program was extended until Monday.

I wonder if they've been paying their merger assessment?

The way I read that say that today our staff has gone from 5700 down to 3100. Then, by fall the other 2600 remaining customer service employees will become RHS employees. I don't know. Needless to say, I can't see one possible way that this is the good "Win-win" situation that Bondo is talking about.. He said in his Presidents Message that not that our company is that much smaller we will be able to see what our direct costs are, because before it was hard to tell. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Was he saying that they couldn't keep track of our cost because we were too big? If so, these bozos either have no clue what they are doing, or they just think that we are that dumb.

The people that work at DGS still have flight benefits, just S3C on delta, I would assume the same courtesy would be extended

I read it the way Boomer does. 5700-2600=3100. It should have been worded something along the lines of "as early as this fall, 2,600 of our employees will become RHS employees."

I kinda see what Bendo is talking about, with regards to seeing what our direct costs are... We have all of this ground equipment and gate/ground employees and other DCI carriers use this equipment for a fraction of what it costs us to purchase and use. I asked one of the Chiefs in recurrent in January whether or not this is taken into account during Delta's decision to award flying based on "cost structure" and he had no idea but thought "probably not." Who knows?

Why is everybody is saying they will lose their flight benifits if they are wholly own as a new company? They will have S3 status as a Delta company.

"Today, Delta Air Lines is announcing plans to create Regional Handling Services (RHS), a wholly owned Delta subsidiary that will be responsible for oversight of Customer Services for Delta Connection."
