Comair updates?
I seem to recall in an earlier "Straight Talk" or "Net Conference" that the date of June 15th was thrown out as a date in which the company would re-examine future staffing requirements as well as take another look at the feasibility of opening a new domicile, as they would have a majority of the fall schedule by then.

We must be a seasonal airline then. We gear up for the summer, spring, and holiday seasons, then when have to furlough during the slow months. That is not how you run a successful business. Maybe we should hire seasonal pilots that are willing to work during the busy season only.
I agree with you that the staffing model shouldn't include seasonal furloughs but, lets not b.s. ourselves into thinking this isn't a service industry that isn't affected by peak and non-peak seasons. In my previous post I guessed a more than normal reduction in flight hours. Meaning a normal slow-down wouldn't require layoffs but if they reduce it significantly more than normal we would be "overstaffed" (I know we wouldn't be overstaffed and jm'ing like crazy, but mgmt will still percieve us as overstaffed and furlough anyways). Us being "overstaffed" being the reason for further furloughs.
The company is way understaffed right now and they have considered bringing some of the furloughees back, however, due to the fact that most have been out more than 90 days, they would have to be re trained etc.
By the time that was done, the summer busy season would be over and those same people would be back out on the street.
I heard as far as further furloughs about 50 more from a union guy in the fall. (SUBJECT TO CHANGE + -)

PS just saw the new VARS message. Glad to see they're on top of the long-call-getting-switched-to-short-call issue, even though last May when I was able to hold long call some of my days were getting switched
...and I'm sure it was happening long before then too.

am i missing something here? on my last week of reserve with Comair back in January, I had my LC1 switched to a Short call due to "rest requirements". Just as the union suggested, i filed an e-gif and got the ball rolling. Sure enough, right away the union guy RP was all over it and said it was illegal and all that crap. After numerous phone calls and emails, I get this message
"On 1/17/2009 10:08:35 PM RP wrote
After investigating your e-gif and lookin over the contract 24-38 17(c) the company may change your reserve period for the following day, if your rest conflicts with your reserve window for the next day. In our opinion there is no violation of the contract. If you have nothing further we will consider this case closed."
What a bunch of crap. If it isnt illegal, then why keep ****in and moanin about it. Cmon do some real work
If you guys wanna know more, lemme know, i got it all saved.

Maybe you can get a little payout from the "class action grievance" or whatever they call it.
And if not, at least you'll be making someone do a little work for one of our furloughed guys.
