Comair updates?
Please excuse my ignorance, but does the union has to approve opening a new base or an LGA co-base before the company can act on it?
With the reduction in flying out of CVG what I see the company doing is moving the 70/90 to JFK and eventually closing CVG as a base, or make it a virtual base.
I don’t think Comair has the numbers beyond September, so I do not think they will be making a decision of furloughs till at least the end of this month.

An O1 will earn $31,860 in basic pay. His BAH and BAS will be $615.00 and $223.00 respectively. That's $10,056.00 per year tax free. His flight pay will be an additional $1500.00 per year. That's a total of $43,416 per year (again, FIRST YEAR PAY), with almost a quarter of that amount being tax free.
It's pretty much a guarantee that you won't spend much, if any time away from home during the first few years if you're an aviator or aircrewman. It's full time flight school for $43K per year. Second year pay and subsequent just keeps going higher and higher. Any career changers out there?
Oops, forgot one. If you're an enlisted guy, you get an additional $1600 the first year for clothing allowance. That's $29,524.00. Getting closer. Not to mention we didn't even factor in free medical, dental, commissary privileges, exchange privileges, etc...right out of high school!

Jr Officers makes more than that.... I will make almost 3 times more in the AF than what I made at Comair first year as a brand spanking new officer
I'm not sure where you got that from. First year pay for an O1 is less than 32k a year. Did the recruiter at least give you a hug after he was finished? lol

Base pay for a 0-1 with zero service is 31,863 per year.
BAS pay is 2,676 per year
BAH pay is 13,800 a year.
Total pay and allowances is 48,340.00 per year.
Bas and BAH are tax free so the effective first year salary is 52,307.00.
These rates assume you are a 0-1 with zero time in service and drawing no specialty pay such as flight pay or combat pay. If you are serving in a combat zone or even near one all pay is tax free. Many officers are commissioned in programs that start their time in service the moment they sign on. A typical marine 2nd LT in the PLC program will start as a 0-1 over 3 and would make with the tax break over 61,000 a year effective compensation. Base pay would be over 40,000. Oh and if you are married your BAH would be another 4000.00 more per year and could push the total to over 65,000.
If you go to flight school 2 years later you will be a 0-2 drawing flight pay. Total compensation would be around 80,000.00 a year. Not to bad!!
