Yes, it's important for us not to forget, as RA informed us, that no jobs or hubs will be lost as a result of the merger.
Wow... this truly sucks. I'm already out of the game, but it is disheartening to see the ship continue to sink. This looks eerily similar to what NWA did to Mesaba several years ago, we can only hope that when (if) things turn around that there will be tremendous growth... but that looks unlikely.
PS: Aren't we due for another CEO or did Comair get "adopted" out of "foster care"?
BOHICA, we're about to get Comair'd.

I would offer a part time pilot program like Delta has. (heard this from a Delta FO) They are allowed to work 55 hrs a month and it mitigates furloughs if not eliminates them. Can you imagine how many JFK commuters would jump at the chance to only commute to JFK twice a month instead of 4-5 times? The company would be paying less in salaries because the more senior people would be taking the part time program for the most part and the higher salaries would only be making 55 hrs a month.
Furloughing from the bottom only eliminates the smallest employee costs, creates huge training costs when the employees return, and destroys morale. The part time program makes much more sense to me.
That's what I'd do.

I would be in favor of this as well, but realize people will still be commuting to JFK 4-5 times a month. Rather than flying a 4-day trip worth 20 hours, a part time pilot would endure a 4-day trip worth 10-12 hours--4 times a month. Insert wisecracks about trip production..........now.

To all those currently and about to be furloughed:
I finally just got hold of the pass bureau to ask about furloughed guys travelling on NWA flight numbers. I was told 'currently you are not able to and it's unlikely that you'll be able to in the future due to your furloughed status'.
I'm writing this sat in TPA having just been bumped by a freedom FO to get back to CVG, and every other flight on delta out of tpa to anywhere is oversold. Good old SWA to Louisville to the rescue, $150 one way. Shame it has to come to that!
To whoever wants buddy passes, I think i have a few left expiring on the 9th, PM me for details. Whoever is even considering a buddy pass now though is out of their mind in my opinion, be prepared for hotel room expenses!
My heart goes out to anyone about to join the ranks of furlough! Get applying now, willflyforfood and climbto350 are fairly useless in my opinion so careful before you waste your money- I already have and have had no real responses or leads. Your best bet will be smaller companies and right seating depending on experience. If anyone is current and schooled on a king air 90 then PM me, and I don't mean 5 hrs in the right seat! Current and been to school!
Good luck to everyone and remeber the new delta offers us the most comprehensive pass travel network around... Unless your furloughed where you have many more people ahead of you and can only fly on half of "deltas" planes!

The point is, with all the reduction in flights and aircraft equipment, it doesn't really matter what Boarding priority you have. If the flight is oversold and passengers can't even get on, you as a non-rev won't get on either. I personally don't have the patience for non-revin' anyway, so I'm going to buy a ticket from now on. If an employer wants me to resign my seniority number with Comair, I have absolutely no problem with that. 1) I won't get recalled, 2) I ain't going back to Comair IF I would get recalled, 3) The flight benefits are crap.
