RJTrash- Why so offensive man? I don't remember singling you out. Alpa is a necessary evil and I'm glad I have them on my side, but I won't believe *every* word they say. Half of the emails I get from our MEC I ignore as propaganda. Right now the MEC likes to fire off at the mouth to "rile up the troops," but unfortunately, the last MEC has left most of us feeling apathetic. I mean seriously... the knucklehead award? Offending the company isn't going to help things.

I want to come in, fly, and go home. Heaven forbid I need them, I'm glad to know they are there to have my back. I just don't put blind faith behind anyone, union or company or otherwise. I'll believe it when I see it.

And yes... I'm against the merger fund.

On another note, I like what RiddleEagle said a few pages back. What will the MEC fight for in terms of trips? What they want to do? I'd rather they (ALPA) do it, because noone else will like the same trips I like, but I think they themselves should take a poll of the pilot group that they represent, and build trips accordingly. Or, if they feel lazy, just report the findings of their own survey to the company.

I live in base (JFK.. I know... second class citizen!) and would prefer high credit 5 day trips with 1 or less deadheads to maximize my day off. I'd like to get released early to beat rush hour traffic home, and I'd also like to have no longer than 1 two hour break per day (no long breaks preferably.) I'm sure most people don't want that, which is why single surveys are useless. The pilot group as a whole should be represented here... with what the pilot group wants.

If you look at the Taft-Hartley Act, it spells it out. To paraphrase, it permits employers and unions to operate under union shop rules which requires all new hires to join the union after a certain period of time (1 year of probation, typically). These same rules say that an employer must fire any employees that have avoided paying dues or assessments necessary to maintain the union membership in the union, even if the employee did not violate any of the employers work rules.

I think they don't receive representation in the event it's needed, or all of the other things like insurance and stuff. I'm not really sure...

I didn't mean to come across as harsh and I certainly wansn't singling you out, either. When I said "you" I didn't mean you personally, but people in general.

This is directly from the ALPA By-Laws and Constitution, which is available on ALPA's website.

SECTION 7 - TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP
A. Membership shall be terminated by expulsion when a member remains in bad standing for a period of two (2) consecutive months because of nonpayment of his dues, assessments, or fines, as provided in Article IX, or when he is expelled as provided in Article VIII, or when terminated as
provided in this Article; or by voluntary resignation submitted in writing by the member (recommended via certified mail/return receipt) to the Vice President-Administration/Secretary of the Association.

Go to ALPA's website and you can change it there. Just login and make the change. It's under "My ALPA", then "Pilot Information". Click Edit in the top right corner of the "Pilot Information" area.

Thank you!!! I've said that for quite some time now!!! That's all it is anymore!!!

Obviously there are a lot of people that agree with you as they have voiced that same concern over the union boards. What a stupid thing!
