RAH Interview

The gouge came from the IFR oral guide. There's a whole pool of questions. Why run the risk of getting different ones. Just go through the oral guide and have it all. Like I said, nothing on mine was from the gouge. Everyone in my class studied it and they took a while to get through.

You just have to have the ATP to upgrade so the upgrade requirements are the ATP requirements. 3ish years is just a guess on his part. If you do some searching to the end of 06 everyone was saying the same thing and as you can see the newest awards went to Nov. 06 guys.

Get flightsim 2004 or 2006 and load a baron. It's the same exact plane. Practice shooting the ILS into INDY(32 or 36 I think it is). I beat that thing like it owed me money all thanks to flightsim! I was hired in March and I had to do all the tests and the sim. I studied the cheat sheet and it made no difference. I read the IFR oral guide on my way up there to brush up on everything and aced the tests and had a coffee break while everyone was still in there taking it. Had I not randomly found my IFR oral guide while unpacking a box I probably would have spent the whole time in there on those tests. Half the things they asked left me sitting there wondering who really cares. I mean when's the last time ATC asked you to do a DFsteer?
I'd stay away from that gouge. Almost nothing in it was in my tests. Just hit the IFR oral guide/ATP oral guide and you'll ace them.

I guess if our "perspectives" can't understand the statements then they just might not have the mental ability to pass the tests. After all it's basically a test question in itself.
Pick the answer that seems most accurate.
All gouge questions come from the oral guides, all test questions come from the oral guides, therefore:
A: All test questions come from the gouge.
B: Some test questions come from the gouge.
C: It's completely plausible that there could be questions, a ton of them, that are in the 100+page oral guide that are not in the 3 page gouge that were asked.

Are you being serious? Isn't it obvious? Unless the gouge contains all the questions from the oral guide then it isn't as complete. Which is sure doesn't. Doesn't even come close. Don't know how many times i have to say this but I'll toss it out there one more time. OUR TEST QUESTIONS WERE NOT THE QUESTIONS ON THE GOUGE. THEY WERE DIFFERENT QUESTIONS THAT CAN BE FOUND IN THE ORAL GUIDE.

When I got hired I figured a 2 year upgrade at least. I was wrong by about 6-9 months on the good side. Figure at least a 2 year upgrade here. Keep in mind that a lot of hiring occurred between Aug 06 - right now. Between me and the most junior captain before this award was over a year...however it was only about 250 numbers on the seniority list and the majority of those guys were J4J (i.e. not taking any upgrade). Between me and the most junior pilot at the company is a couple months over a year but over 800 numbers on the seniority list. It's a big difference.
Edit - In terms of upgrade though, ToiletDuck was closer than any of our guesses as to when people would upgrade. I don't think it'll stay as junior as this bid went...but I would consider his opinion since he was almost dead-on this time around.

Yeah, I base the three years for someone hired today. We are not expect significant additional growth right now. Probably top out around 2300 pilots. We have just under 2100 right now. Junior upgrade this round was around 1250. Assuming average attrition of 30/month, that gives about 28-35 months based on which point of that hiring curve. Guys hired earlier this year will upgrade faster. That huge push from last fall to today really messes up predictions based on current events. The questions is when will the plateau hit.
