Things did slow in training just before we started to catch up.. We kicked all part time instructors back to the line to cover flying. And next month some bases have zero ca or fo rsv. Ops check normal, like most situations in the airlines, the fix is made after the problem. Always pinned behind the 8 ball.

For all those worried about the immediate upgrade. My friend also from Expressjet. Took the upgrade right after IOE so he has 40 hours of dash time. He said upgrade has been pretty relaxed. For what it's worth...

I'm personally waiting for a SOE capt right now. I've been enjoying the time off. I know time with the family will be few and far between when I hit the line. I am ready to make more than guaranteed min though. Savings is getting thin!!

Here's hoping these changes everyone talks about are real

My point is more that the company should be on top of this stuff. Yeah, time off is nice for some, but I don't think that should be used as a justification for the training departments inability to, well, train pilots.

It's called **** poor planning. Guess they didn't realize that half their SOE Captains and Simulator instructors would be ready to run out the door when their flow numbers came up.
The problem Piedmont is dealing with is that they were already a small very senior airline. Now add American wanting them to double in size with a new type plane and at the same time having Senior Pilots ready to run out the door every month American sends you a class date, we'll you'll have issues if you didn't properly gear up for it.
They should've had SOE instructors ready to go, they should've been training Sim instructors also to be ready to go.
I honestly don't know how they are going to do it. I could see a merger with another airline with Piedmont. Trying to double in size in this environment is going to be brutal to say the least. I could see the Dash's maybe going away faster then some may want just to keep up with training of one airplane alone. Remember all the 100's are paid for and could be parked easily.
A new CEO will be taking over soon and maybe he'll have the right answers.
