ATP Cert/PC

Steep turns were done on both my FO ride and my ATP ride....Circle to land was trained, but not tested on either ride, and as such, have a Circle to Land EMB-145 restriction on my certificate. The only difference during the ATP check and the FO check for myself was an engine restart, and there's no retraining. Fail any item = Fail the check. Oral was about the same also, but i believe everything is fair game, and there were a couple of FAA reg type questions in there too, which weren't on the FO initial ride (per my memory).

True, under a conventional training program. If your shop uses AQP it's not quite that way.
To the original poster, it would be nice to be able to knock out an ATP on an FO PC, assuming you had an APD do the PC. Couple things to consider, you are going for an additional rating, which means the potential of a pink slip. If your company does a PC where you only do a single sim session, you had better be on your game without having seen the sim in a year. Again, depending on your employer. My previous job, FO's went every six months just like a CA. The six month was the standard PT (training, non jeopardy). The 12 month PC was a two sim (jeopardy) event. However, it was STILL AQP which takes a lot of pressure off. My current place, the FO goes once a year but they are talking about going to a 9 month cycle. The benefit of doing it during upgrade is that you've had more exposure to the sim and the training environment.

I just asked about this during my last PC and apparently asked to late. All it is at my company is getting the director of training to approve it and if the Captain adminstering your PC doesnt mind and you clear it with him they will make it happen.
An FO PC at my company is the same nearly as the ATP ride and only a few small modifications would need to be made. We do an IMC circle to land as well as steep turns and stalls and single engine missed approach.
It depends on the company and I am sure is a per case basis but it can be done. This is assuming you are of course just asking for the ATP and NOT to be PIC typed with the ATP.

If EVERY sim instructor at your employer is authorized, not a big deal. If the number is limited, it might be tough to get done.

In order to get issued an ATP...
- You need to perform all required maneuvers. FO and PC rides probably don't include everything.
- Fill out an 8710.
- Have a sim instructor who is a DPE, and is willing to do it.
