I don't think you'll ever see the requirement of degree for upgrade; however, it will certainly give you an edge when hiring resumes in what promises to be a very competitive market. I unfortunately never finished my degree, left early after 3 years for personal reasons with expectation of returning and never got back into it. After reading this thread it's given me a push to finish what I started, I'm already looking into completing my degree online to re-invent myself for future jobs as well as personal satisfaction

Good decision. Once you graduate, you will have earned your degree and the recognition that goes with it.

Good luck with your final year.

A few small problems with that;

1 Who was the author?

2 Did you comprehend it?

3 Were you tested on it?

4 Did you pass the test?

5 What was your grade?

6 Can you show a certificate of graduation to a prospective employer?

I'd go with a good university instead of a site where any fool can edit.

While I agree w/ your overall statement, I find it amusing you're talking about raising standards then go on to say something is a mute point......

FYI, it's a MOOT point.....not mute. Thought you might like to know.....not really busting on you...'cause as I said previously, I agree with the premise of your post.

Edit: disregard, someone already covered the moot point issue.

Ah yes my improper grammar (as pointed out by many before you) did counteract the point of my original post . However, I never claimed to be an English major, and as demonstrated my writing abilities are not my strongest attribute. I do have strong views on the importance of higher education but can not articulate them as well as some others on here. I have been caught off guard by people on here understating the value of a University degree program. Where I grew up, with my family and friends, it was never are you going to college but where are you going to college. It saddens me to see some on here try to diminish the importance of a higher education. Especially after watching how far and fast respect for our profession has fallen in the short nine years I have been doing this. The last thing we need to do is cheapen this career even further by DISCOURAGING young pilots from going to college. In the end though, with such a surplus of pilots, it is a moot point with out a degree or a dad in upper management you will have a very slim chance of ever getting on with the major players.
