Then i said:"When you call up FSS, they aren't ATC. They are just a middle man, and they are listening to 100 freqs. So you need to tell them your call sign followed by what freq you are transmitting and recieving on.", Then when they get back to you, you can tell them you are on the gound in xyz airport and looking for your cleanance to xyz airport."
F/O:"The guy was being a ____".

I could go on but you see the problem here, we have low time pilots that have ZERO GA/Airline knowledge. I don't get paid to be a flight instructor anymore but this is Private Pilot stuff. And he gets rude to the controllers for his lack of knowledge. I don't care if the guy fly's like crap just as long as he doesn't have a horrible attitude.
I see the same thing with drivers. Its a response to fear or pressure, ever notice the guys weaving in and out of traffic are swearing at the "slow blank blank" in their way?
same thing, hell grow out of it.

I just don't get it. Here is a new pilot who won the lottery and got an airline job after only being a pilot for a year. And he is chuck yeager. He flew fine and i don't have any issues with that. It just that everybody is an idiot according to him, from rampers to gate agents to flight attendents etc... I would try to correct his lack of knowledge with explaination but he never wanted to hear it. I gave him a copy of important parts of the AIM and 10 min after departure it was in the garbage.
Just basic basic uncontrolled airport stuff. How to get a clearance, reporting points etc...He just didn't want to hear it.
Anyone know how to educate a brick wall?

I hope he does not do that with New York Approach/Departure and Center those guys will give him a number to call after chewing him out on how hard it is being a controller in NY city area.

He sounds colorful! Being a good and responsible pilot is always most important. We have a wide variety of pilots coming from wide variety of backgrounds. While their sensitivities should be considered, some people just need to grow a thicker skin.

Agreed. Pride is often a difficult thing to swallow. Some people need to work on their presentations of opinion (i.e. tact). In the end the most important thing is to come out of a situation alive with career intact. If swallowing my pride and trying to see a lesson in someone's rude remarks saves me from a possible fatal or career damaging blunder, then that's what I'll do.

Interesting how whenever someone is a jerk he is automaticly a 300 hour wonder. From personal experiance anyone can be a Jackass or a moron sometimes at the same time. I hear mainline guys doing this same type of thing ( yelling at atc) all the time does that make them 300 hour entitled kids? Or just jerks? I heard mainline airways last week at Clt ask ATC where the supervisor was because they thought the controler was doing a bad job. All they did was leave them a bit high. I know of a few CAPT at your airline who yell at ground crew and gate agents on a regular basis. One I am ashamed to say I flew with and witnessed his tirade. I agree this guy sounds like a peice if work but let's leave hours out of personality.

Is this an Air Whiskey FO? A while back I got done a trip at JFK and headed over to LGA to JS to PHL. All the pax were on board and I waited for the captain to finish up so I could introduce myself. As I stood in the doorway, the FO called for his clearance. The freq was pretty busy and atc did not answer him, so he started yelling at her! After 1-2 minutes of this, she did give him his clearance. He then read it back wrong. She told him to stby and she would get back to him. He then started yelling and complaining in the cockpit (loudly, heard by the front row pax). He then called Clearance again and she told him to stby. When she did get back to him, he questioned why she was rude and ignoring him!! She said "Because you read the clearance back totally wrong and I told you to stby while I take care of other a/c" He yelled back at her saying he read back exactly what she said.....anyway, the flight pushed late because of all this.
It was the first time I ever flew on Air Whiskey. It made impression on me, and I'm sure everyone in front of the plane will rush back to fly USAir after wittnessing that!

Why do you feel the need to educate someone with whom you are flying with ? Why is it deemed necessary to give him a copy of the AIM and highlight points to which you feel are important to this person ? Was he/she really that bad ? Because if you gave me a printout of the AIM we would have words at that instant to clear up this ' rift ' you seemed to have run into....

If what he stated happened, the FO has no business in a jet, not even a Cessna 152.
