After 1-2 minutes of this, she did give him his clearance. He then read it back wrong. She told him to stby and she would get back to him. He then started yelling and complaining in the cockpit (loudly, heard by the front row pax). He then called Clearance again and she told him to stby. When she did get back to him, he questioned why she was rude and ignoring him!! She said "Because you read the clearance back totally wrong and I told you to stby while I take care of other a/c" He yelled back at her saying he read back exactly what she said.....anyway, the flight pushed late because of all this.
It was the first time I ever flew on Air Whiskey. It made impression on me, and I'm sure everyone in front of the plane will rush back to fly USAir after wittnessing that!
aside from his demonstrated professionalism, what was he doing calling for clearance without the CA present to listen and write it down as well....that's not a safety issue.....

F/O:"In xxx airport"
FSS:"Airline 123, are you airborne or are you on the ground?"
F/O:"On the ground" in a harsh tone.
FSS:"OK, ATC clears Airline 123, to the xyz airport, via....hold for release"
F/O:"Cleared to xyz, via..."
Captain:"I think he would like you to say:"ATC clears Airline 123, to the xyz airport via....holding for release".
F/O:"He knows what i mean". swears about the controller.
Then i said:"When you call up FSS, they aren't ATC. They are just a middle man, and they are listening to 100 freqs. So you need to tell them your call sign followed by what freq you are transmitting and recieving on.", Then when they get back to you, you can tell them you are on the gound in xyz airport and looking for your cleanance to xyz airport."
F/O:"The guy was being a ____".
.
Seriously? At least he appears to generally know what FSS does.. were you guys able to get off the ground or did you have to take over radios? Maybe he hadn't done uncontrolled in a long time, which airport was it?

I just feel bad for the ATC guys that have to be on the recieving end of this. My F/O clearly didn't know how the system works and that's fine, he can learn. But rather than ask and be cool about it, he bit into the ATC guy.
When i tried to give him the proper info he just threw it into the garbage. I guess the moral of the story is that just because you are flying a jet doesn't mean that you are god and everbody else is an idiot.

uhhh yeah god forbid you should try to teach your (obviously inexperienced) FO the proper way to do something.......

Well if they obviously need it...

Doesn't every airline have some sort of duty/responsibility of the captain to mentor or help FOs with the progression of their job? There is a reason FSDO automatically renews part 121 captains CFI certificates.

If my captain handed me some information he thought I was a little rusty on, I would take it, read it, know it, and thank him for caring enough to keep me out of trouble. We got to look out for each other these days. Check your ego at the cockpit door.

It's called professionalism, you correct mistakes that need to be fixed. If I were screwing things up, I would want to be told. If your not trying to be the best pilot you can then you don't belong in this business. It's a state of mind, it should pi$$ you off when you screw up and you should thank the person trying to help you out.

He obviously needed to brush up on his radio calls, and isn't doing so himself. It sounds as if he needs a little guidance on what he needs to be reviewing.

Very professional. Grow some thick skin and get over yourself!

Be lucky that you only have to deal with that Capt or chief pilot, about your mistakes. If I screw up, I get to stand in front of all the pilots I fly with (including the Boss and Chief Pilot) and tell them what I should have done.

Interesting. Not only would you not last 5 seconds in a crew environment trying to point out the faults of all those you fly with, you let us know that you've prob. messed up to the point that you know the exact outcome/carpet dance you need to do afterwards.

Would you by chance happen to be the first officer pilot in question? Either way you are making a buffoon of yourself on the internet with your outrageous, and infantile attitude. An embarassement even to novices.

Please relax, and attempt to take in the entire meaning, and writing of this thread. Best of luck to you, and especially to your flying partners.
