There maybe unemployed pilots who refuse to lower paying jobs, but each year they become less current, further from aviation, and much less appealing to majors. The market is just as saturated with regional captains, that will be the prime picking for majors when they do hire. I think you under estimate over the next ten years how many people will be hired at majors, and how many people will not get hired/meet their qualifications/hrs/etc, just because there are xxxx people with the times for majors, does not mean that many will actually be hired, many have busted rides, accidents, violations, or are just 'weird' and will not get hired. At 24 I optimistic for the future, and do not yet regret choice this job field, particularly when I look at my friends who got masters degrees and are doing nothing more than $15/hr jobs and living at home, while hating life.

I'm 27, so please don't take this as me being condescending:
I appreciate your youthful exuberance, but give it 2-3 years and get back to us; the reality of this career has a way of *****-slapping even the most "glass half full" types in this industry. The fastest way to be disappointed & jaded is to have an expectation for career progression X and have the actual outcome be career progression Y.
You think I'm underestimating demand over the next decade, and I think you're greatly overestimating it - and we've both probably seen the same retirement projections. Only time will tell which one is right.
Seriously, good luck - the regional industry needs a few more pilots with a positive outlook (and I say that as an alum of AWAC).

ya we will see, my family is saturated in this industry, so it was my only option since I was a little kid, and I enjoy it. I am just going to make myself as appealing as possible to the type job I wish to end up and go for it. I think when the majors hire they will have mins, and people think because they have 15,000 hour and 10,000 turbine pic they will hired before someone with 5000ttl and 1200 turbine pic, and i think that will be the biggest surprise to everyone.

Riddle me this:
How does this agreement dovetail with the 1800 (?) AA pilots on furlough? Do the AE guys get these flow through positions as the furloughs are recalled? Or does this go into effect after the furloughs are absorbed or bypass?

American has just short of 1000 pilots on furlough, and of course they will come back first. The recall acceptance rate is around 20% so if that stays true, only about 200 of them will come back. After that comes the flowthroughs, then comes the preferential hiring guys/gals, and THEN the rest. Yes its going to take quite a while, but it will help keep the movement going for those of us in the bottom half...

Let me get this straight...
The eagle MEC went in trying to secure jobs for all current employees and came out with a flow deal that will take 16 years to come through for the junior guys?
This is just another sad tale of the top of the list stepping on the backs of the junior pilots at eagle to get themselves into American without an interview. Didn't you guys learn anything from your last flow deal?
Please correct me if I'm mis-informed, but this smells like crap for the newer guys and gals.

Please don't make to much of the numbers of deferrals of recall. There are two guys in my department that deferred, but if AA does "take-off" with growing and adding planes will go back and have 1,200 numbers under them. Right now, it isn't worth it to be at the bottom of the list, on reserve, with a pay cut. Put 'em close to a Captain's bid, with security from another furlough, different story. They have 3 years after the last furlough is recalled.
