There will be much more disappointment to come in this career, this I promise you.
20% of the current Colgan captains were awarded jet captain on this award alone.

And just as a disclaimer, bid what you can hold, that's what I do.

I just think Bloch is ****ing moron.

Bartok, I generally agree with you, but not on this one. Bid where you want to go. Let the award process determine if you have the seniority to hold it. If I bid and get my 16th choice, great, that's what I can hold. At least I tried for the first 15. If, however, I just bid that 16th choice as number one and COULD have held something better, now I'm just going to be ****ed but have no one to blame but myself. Simply put, you don't know what you can hold until you bid for it.

This is why it's called a STANDING BID. You leave it in there and see what you can hold in each award. We've had plenty of problems with guys ****ing and moaning because someone junior to them got something they wanted, but they didn't bid for it. Nothing to do then.

We are saying the same thing amigo, I mean bid what you want and if you can hold it, good for you.

My point was that if these Colgan guys can bid the jet or hold CA before anyone else, do what you want, that is the gift of Bloch.

I would take every advantage I am given.

What this means is that these pilots all have the RJ Captain positions first, and then Q and Saabs. So you are INACCURATE when you say the majority are "just fine" in current position. Obviously they are not, which is why the award # category matters. And anytime a Colgan pilot is awarded a prop Captain position and the "to # number" shows greater than 10, it means these pilots have all the RJ Captain positions as #1-#9. Nice try, but facts speak for themselves.
Hey thats a good point ShyGuy. What you are saying makes sense but the numbers dont add up. There were 6 Tprop bases available on the bid form: IAH-Q IAH-Saab IAD CRW BOS EWR

So lets say if the "TO #" was greater than 6 for someone who was awarded a T prop captain slot, that person MUST have had jet slots higher and then you could say that person wasnt "just fine" on the prop.

BASE / # of colgan pilots awarded prop CA / # of colgan pilots with > 6 on the "To #"

IAH Saab / 34 / 10
IAH Q / 32 / 2
IAD / 19 / 7
EWR / 26 / 3
CRW / 4 / 2

So you see that of the 115 colgan pilots awarded Prop captain slots(many of which were already captains just moving bases) only 24 MUST have had jets in their preferenece bid above props. That is just under 21 percent. Now some of the other 79% may very well have had a jet higher than the prop on their preference but we cannot tell that because they were awarded a slot at 6 or less. But just for giggles I counted how many colgan pilots who were awarded or displaced to a prop captain slot had that as their number 1 choice(or in the case of the displaced pilots their number 2 choice). 61 out of 115. So we know for SURE that 53% of those pilots were, in fact, "JUST FINE" with the turbo props. That number is probably higher but we cannot know how many of those who were awarded their 2-6th choices just got a different tprop or base. You started off with a good idea but the facts really do speak for themselves and they are saying something quite different than you are.

You were in the math club in high school weren't you?

ShyGuy cracked the case. He proved that "we don't want your jets" was a bigger lie than "don't worry I'll pull out"

J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets!!! Yipeeeeee!!!!!!

Ha! YEAH RIGHT. If it weren't for the higher potential for a better quality of life in the Saab (more junior plane), I'd go to the RJ. Having flown both, the RJ is "easier" work, imo, and since I don't like getting into penis-measuring contests, I choose easy work.

I just like how the Saab flys better than the CRJ... I'm sure I'll eventually get lazy and want the ease of the CRJ's flying back... but for now, I enjoy the challenge of "real" flying as opposed to hitting NAV mode and letting the FMS take me where I want to go... (that said I REALLY miss the APU on the CRJ...)

Just an FYI... that TO # isn't necessarily always accurate. Mine shows my award as my number one and it wasn't.

Oh and for the sake of argument I have ewr capt as my number one on my standing pref so not all of us want a jet

These guys got awarded these positions and should be thankful and professional about it by not rubbing it in to SR FOs.

That said the SR FOs need to be professional as well towards these Jr CAs last time I checked the FOM doesn't say anything about the CA letting an FO fly. Could make for a very long 4 day if someone decides to be a D bag...

Complaining about this and dissecting the award in what is your own interpretation of Blochs decision ( you said FS gets to interpret Blochs award himself, but now you are) is pointless and does nothing for you or the collective whole. Time to move forward with this Bloch party
Couldn't agree more.
