So put the hour minimums wherever they want, still wouldn't have prevented 3407, they both exceeded 1500 hours.

But what did they do to get to 1500 + hours? Flying an RJ for 1500 hours does not really make you an experienced pilot. Going from 300 to 1500 hours as an FO does not prepare you to be a captain. Getting out there and teaching maneuvers and doing stall and spin practice does help. One should not have his or her first experience with making stupid mistakes and surviving it in a 121 aircraft. These lessons are best learned by ones self. That, in my opinion, is the value of flight instruction and single pilot commercial flying. I did some really dumb stuff in airplanes before I got here. I learned to make decisions by making bad ones first. That is the point of the 1500 hour rule.

Not to defend this guy's petition...but 'Pay your dues'? There is no point in paying your dues anymore. That's the mentality that cultivated the regionals and helped bring the industry to where it is today. As people are finding out, the "promised land" after the regionals is no more. 'Pay your dues' for WHAT???

The Internet was around long before you got into this profession. You have noone to blame but yourself for getting into this business. 1500hr rule is the minimum we should aspire to.
Don't want to pay your dues as a CFI? Then do something else.

A petition to stop this NPRM... Are you F&%#ing kidding me!!!! If your petition succeeds, that would be catastophic for this industry. Flying at a Part 121 airline needs to have professionals. At 250-1000 hours of flight experience you are still in the infancy of your experience level. Especially, if all you've done is make left turns (or right) in a traffic pattern. As a pilot at a 121 carrier I do not get paid to be a flight instructor, nor do I want to be. I expect that whoever is in the other seat, that they are competent and can perform their job without the other pilot having to babysit. I know that the regs. currently allow low time pilots to fly at the 121 level, that however, doesn't mean it's a good idea. Legal and safe have two different definitions!!!
