ATP Law Petition

I cant remember the last time I saw so much APC unity. Wish it was like this more often.
Being a former freight dog, I think everyone should have to fly some 135, single pilot in bad weather with crappy equipment before they move on to the airlines. Those that dont kill themselves or quit may move on up the ladder. 121 in a CRJ is infinitely easier than 135 in a 402.

Skywest is. So now our FOs are whining that the company is not paying the fee for their written...
I'm not even sure how they got hired without a written in the first place???

I pity the poor captain who has experienced every possible scenario, just because it would take forever to get there. Even more than you could get by flying past 60. But the difference between success and failure in an emergency is experience. Training is a must, but no one becomes a seasoned, experienced aviator solely by training in a sim.

Cheer up low-timers.
When I got into this game the economy was bad, and there where lot's of ex-military guys out there. A Part 135 firm's min hiring qualifications were ATP with 3,000TT, 500 ME PIC. And that was just to fly a Beech Baron. For a SIC you needed 1,500TT.

I loved reading everyone's posts. Andrew is wondering right now what it means to be a "professional pilot" and hoping he learns it before he gets hired at an airline.
I can't believe it took this long to raise the requirements for airline pilots...What passenger wouldn't want two ATP rated pilots in the front of his sled? We've all talked to people with no knowledge of the business who can't believe that their Regional Jet FO is on food stamps and that a first year pilot for a major could be making $30k a year.
I flew with some low time guys at the regionals in the US before I skipped out and some were good and the rest you could tell had never had frost on their airplane much less ice. Some knew how to deviate around a squall line and operate a weather radar and some didn't....ALL were willing to LEARN! which made them okay in my book.
I'm flying in China now where the locals are hired as ab-initio FO's with zero time and are in the right seat of the A320 or B737 with about 300 hours total. These guys are a joke and they were supposedly taught advanced systems and multi-crew operations from the get go. These jokers can quote the GOM and that's about it. They have no concept of CRM, Captain's authority, and can't for one minute understand why you are tilting the radar dish or why the airplane needs to have deicing fluid sprayed on it when there is snow on the wings.
Kudos to all who would never sign such a petition!!

On the other hand my airline is having financial difficulty. It would be cheaper to get it now on my own than goto another regional ti get it if I should get furloughed before August 2913.

The rant is totally understandable ... but these rules will be much better for everyone in the long run. No more "will fly for food" , and the airlines will have to pay much more to find a qualified and experienced individual.
