Out of pure curiosity, would everyone post what they did before getting to a 121? I'm interested to see how many hrs people had when they got hired and where they got those hours. I want to see how most people did pay their dues prior to flying pax I think it'll be interesting to see the results!!

For myself, I instructed till 1100 hrs, then flew 135 freight at amf until 2700 hrs before getting on with SkyWest.

Next?
Being an FO at a regional for many years is tough too. Some guys got quick upgrades.

Now listen up everyone. I want everyone to list how many years you sat FO at a regional before upgrade, immediately. I want to see how many of you paid your dues before you becoming a captain.

Do you see how ridiculous I sound? Everyone will be paying dues until they reach the top at a major. If some one does ONE step of the hundred step process quicker than you it doesn't mean a damn thing.

Hold on there big guy, the whole reason for this whole thread is to help Andrew find a way to gain experience, become a better pilot and get to 1500 hrs so he can get an airline job. I'm just trying to help show him how others have gotten to the airlines to provide some guidance that he can use to help himself. I'm not trying to get in a ****ing war over who had it the hardest.

I can't tell what's going on here... you quoted a post of mine, that had a bunch of crap added to it that I didn't post.... it looks like someone replied to it and it was incorrectly quoted, and then they deleted their post? No idea. I hope you're replying to the text in your quote that is not mine, as seems to be the case.

Bloody hell, I've already been furloughed.

Hired at 2,000 hours total, 1,500 hours instruction, 7 years as an FO. I "paid my dues" to get where I'm at.

Years ago, I flew with a guy that was hired in the 1970's. He spent 6 months as an FO. Paying dues is all relative...

He has a point though. Whether you are one of those guys or not, some people seem to think they are more privileged than others. Like the last guy said, paying dues is all relative. A guy who gets lucky now might get screwed over in the future. Everyone will pay their dues, some more than others. At the regional FO level it is hard to tell how much hardships one has ahead of them.

Bragging about how much hardships you went through to get to the regionals is kinda like bragging about living in the hood. Bragging about living in poverty. "I'm from the hood, you come to the hood and talk like that you get knocked the @$#% out. I'm cut throat. We don't call the PO-lice, we settle this S@$# in tha stAreet."

I thought paying dues was something you did in Cub scouts to help pay for snacks.

I don't believe in "paying dues" at all, if you can perform at the required levels, are smart enough, can basically do what needs to be done and handle situations, you can fly in whatever position you like. That said, it USUALLY takes a good deal of experience to get there, and insurance companies/airlines want to make things as cheap and efficient as possible for themselves, hence the minimums. The point though is that not everyone can become a pilot. It requires money and a lot of hard work. It's not going to work for everyone, and it's not a profession that's "open to anyone who wants it". I'd like it to be that way, honestly, but you either pay your MONEY to get the required experience, which either means a lot of dollars for it, or time spent because you don't have the financial reserves. Either way, you pay to play and the people that end up here are hopefully the ones that have the ability and resources, whether a matter of what they physically had at the time or the amount of time they spent.

It's easy for fellow pilots to say that this 1500 hr rule is good but what if this went into effect when you were a low time pilot? I'm pretty sure some of them got hired around the 250-500 hr mark and they must feel very lucky to have been hired. It is obviously impartial treatment for those who just got into aviation today vs people who got into aviation a few years back when airlines were hiring at the minimums... I wish the FAA had set this minimum before regionals started hiring so everyone got a fair chance. To get 1500 hours now is much harder with flying activity slowing down and not much of a chance to make a living while flying.

But in all honesty, the new ATP law is the way to go to ensure safety for everyone.
