Default Crj vs. Erj

Ok for those of us going into the regionals, please put the two planes against each other. Canadair vs Embraer. What to like about them, what to hate about them.

Go to that "other" forum and do a search. This topic has been beat to death endlessly.

However, I figure about 3 pages of the standard pi$$ing contest of who thinks they fly the best RJ. Sad really, a bunch of guys thinking that their RJ is better than the other one. Go to a bar and try telling girls that the RJ that you don't get paid anywhere near enough to fly is better than the other one. See how much tail that gets you.

Let me repeat that, it doesn't matter. They both pay crap. One may do this better, one may do that better. What may be faster, one may be slower. One can go higher, one can't go as high (again, it doesn't matter). One particular model of one has chronic zero fuel weight problems. One has "old school" avionics. One may be more comfy, one may be less comfy. And my personal favorite, "well, at least you can see out the passenger windows in the XXX".

God, like it all matters to the guys that fly them for substandard wages.

Off all the regional jets I've gotten to see from the jumpseat (i've only ever flown the CRJ) I think the DoJet was definitely the best. The most spacious cockpit, great avionics, smooth design & the largest pax cabin (while fewer seats, it was a good bit more comfortable than the CRJ. Of course, it could outclimb a 737 but couldn't cruise nearly as fast as the others. And there were the mx problems at ACA burning through engines at an alarming rate.

Disclaimer - I'm not a regional pilot. I'm sure there are plenty of guys around here who could give you a much more knowledgeable response.

Default Jungle jet vs. Tundra thumper

Whichever one gets you to the left seat first. I've flown both & my favorite was the CRJ 700. However I have not flown the E-170 & hopefully will not have to.

Everybody I know who has flown both prefers the ERJ. For those of us like me who haven't flown both, we can't really have an opinion...

But the CRJ is a lot of fun, and I have no complaints except for 152-like climb rates above FL200 (in the 50)

Yeah, that 152 is a dog above FL200! Sorry, couldn't resist!

Agreed, read the book on the CRJ before going to class and getting furloughed. Rode in the front ALOT on commutes. Now fly the ERJ, but the 328 beats the ERJ for pure fun factor and ease of flying. Way less workload in the 328, it just has a better avionics set up and better, more advanced FADEC's. In other word, I didn't havet to tell the 328 FADECs a thing. it was smart enough to firgure out everything by itself. The ERJ cockpit is much more comfortable, more legroom and better Air Conditioning. The avionics, not as good. ERJ requires way more managment. Thats not because it's such a "hot" performer, simply because it flys like garbage. Terrible autopilot, both in the lateral and vertical modes. The XR is the only model they ever should have made. Had Dornier not dropped the ball, the MX issues proabably could have been taken care of. The MX at Xjet is second to none.

Again, they all pay crap.

Also, the ERJ climbs like crap up high as well, except for the XR, the ERJ doesn't have the market cornered in the climb up high.

Viva the DoJet!

The CRJ is not bigger than the ERJ by a whole lot. You can't really tell the difference I guess unless you fly the CRJ900, that probably does feel different. And where it matters, in the cockpit, the ERJ is definitely better.

As far as a great starter, both the ERJ and CRJ were designed for low time pilots. So you can't go wrong either way. I find that the ERJ was a lot more fun to fly because the wing is a little more efficient, I think, than the CRJ. It was very maneuverable. For example, you can land an ERJ with just two flap settings vs the 4 to 5 on the CRJ. The CRJ however has a better EFIS system, a little more practical than the ERJs although anything the CRJ can do the ERJ can as well. Plus the ERJ does not have a set standard FMS like the CRJ does which was very annoying having to learn the different boxes. As far as the systems are basically the same, they were designed for low time pilots so there's nothing really to do other than to place switches in the auto position.
