I don't care what the union says there is no way that the IRS won't see a 6000 dollar (at the low end) lump sum as a bonus payment.
I also don't think that many of the junior FO's will ever seethe opportunity to use the bridge program being offered. They have to make CA to be eligible and there will end up being a log jam of lifer CAs and CA that can't pass the interview taking up those positions.

[QUOTE=Trip7;1318334]I agree that 6 months is impossible. A wind down in a year can be done if split between multiple regionals. Air Wisconsin would likely be brought in as a DCI carrier to help out.

No likely about it... They have already been told to be ready, they ARE the one if Pinnacle dies.

If that is true, Air Wisky is a much more attractive option with what will probably be a reasonable time to upgrade for PNCL FOs than taking a $7/hr paycut only to be furloughed anyway to save the senior guys' job.
Air Wisky has very good pay and workrules for a regional. They arguably have the best contract in the regional sector

Whiskey's US Airways contract is up in a few years, they need something else. Do you remember how they got that contract? I am sure Delta isn't opposed to them offering up some dough for the contract. Unlikely but possible if they are desperate enough.

My signing bonus at AirTran when we signed our new CBA was around $10,000. It was taxed as normal income, not as a bonus. They're not BSing you.

I guess we will find out.

How do you know this? Have you been privvy to meetings between DAL and AWAC? Have you seen signed paperwork?
I doubt AWAC would sign any agreement unless it was as watertight as possible and guaranteed them a source of income for a number of years.
AWAC has no payscale for a 76-seat jet. I don't know how an agreement could be signed without concrete numbers on costs.

You guys that are concerned about how your "bonus" might be taxed are getting "taxes" and "withholding" confused. If you get a lump sum of money, you may, for example, see that FED taxes are withheld at 25 percent. That doesn't mean you're necessarily getting TAXED at 25 percent, it just means that 25 percent is being WITHHELD for future payment of taxes. All of your income, including your bonus, will ultimately be taxed at whatever rate you are normally taxed depending upon how much income you've earned through the year, your filing status, your deductions and credits, etc.
If your marginal tax rate ends up being less than 25 percent, per my example, you'll get that excess withholding back in the form of a larger refund or smaller amount due when you file your return for that tax year. If the company is withholding too much and you want your excess back sooner, then fill out a new W4 and have the company withhold less thoughout that tax year. Just be careful that you don't under-withhold and end up paying a penalty.
Clear as mud?
