What would it take to bring you back?

1) 6,000 + hours, 2 type ratings, 3,500 turbine PIC.
2) Currently flying part 135, 7 on 7 off, pays about the same as I was getting as a regional captain.
3) For me to go back to a regional it would have to be at least $50,000 a year to start and have a base within reasonable driving distance. I can't go back to year one regional pay, begging for a ride so I can commute to sit reserve for $20k. Already done that, like flight instructing, I already paid my dues and I'm not doing it again.

1. 6800 total hours... 5500 Turbine... 600 Part 121 PIC.
2. Currently working as a Sim Instructor with FAA Type-Check authority
3. I have missed 121 Flying tremendously since leaving it. Call me an idiot but since United isn't knocking down my door, I'm trying to get back into the airline game by applying at a Regional. The "awesome" outfit I'm trying to get on with won't return my calls either.
Said outfit seems like they have an issue with my 2.6 GPA in college 26 years ago or the one busted checkride in my career. Whatever.
P.S. Dude at Job Fair told me they are looking for candidates with a "clean" training history and a minimum 3.0 GPA

1600 TT and 100 ME, BS degree aviation, excellent work record. I recently left a major airline where I worked as a Ramp Service Man and made over 50K.
I would start at a regional at 50k but no less. I just can't afford it. I would not go back unless there was some serious furlough protection and sign on bonus.
I left training at a regional 10 years ago due to family issues, but frankly the training sucked. I would have to see that the training has improved over the years.

It is awesome. And to think only a few months ago everyone believed in a pilot shortage, and that everyone should stand in line for this treatment because they'd all eventually work for a major.
Now we know that's not true.

My friends couldn't believe me 10 years ago when I left the regionals during training. Apart from having a serious family issue, I just couldn't stand not getting paid and being treated like the company just didn't want me (and my classmates).
IMHO, it was "get there itis" that kept pilots at these levels for so long. Hopefully they learned their lessons and won't stand for it any longer.

But that's because you don't really have a union. The RLA prevents the union from actually doing what unions do, so the "union" spins it's wheels and does all kinds of crazy stuff, while being constantly pulled in the directions of mainline and regional airlines. It's confused and simply has nowhere to go. It's like having an army and a law that you will never go to war. Back in the early industrial age when people first banded together to stand up against oppressive work rules and hours, do you think they cared about going to jail? Until pilots care enough to actually stand up for their work rules and wages, little will change. Wanting a "union" to somehow pull a rabbit of it's rear end in spite of the RLA is wishful thinking, but it's a lot easier than actually doing something...
