I stand corrected. In the past, at some companies, Union activity was considered a necessary evil. It certainly wasn't looked on (by management) in a positive way.

If that has really changed, its a huge step forward. I remain skeptical though.

From another website, referring to Emirates:

Interestingly enough, I recently received two cold emails from EK asking me whether I was still interested in joining as a DEC. I successfully applied in 2006, but opted not to join (10 yrs ago).

EK are obviously trolling through cold cases.

Overseas bases might eventually come to fruition....long overdue IMHO.

looks like there is another push towards repealing the 1500 hour rule.

We need to stop talking about the pilot shortage, there isn't one. We need to talk about the lawyer and doctor shortage. Put an add in the paper, on the internet, wherever looking to hire doctors and you are willing to pay them $21,000 a year. Lawyers, I think we could pay maybe 18,000 because there is not the same amount of training as a doctor or pilot. Lets see how many applicants we get. We have been hiring thousands of pilots at 21000 for the last few years but it has recently gone to about 35000. There are still lots of pilots sitting at home because they are not going to work for 35000.

Try and hire a secretary for 21000 a year in Saint Louis and let me know how long the person stays if you can find one.

The market will set the price and the price is over 100k for a captain. Sorry Compass, Gojet, and Republic, if you want to hire pilots you had better be prepared to pay them, and not just the first year guys. Take the clue from Endeavor and Envoy.

Am I wrong?

Good post. My personal take on it, is that the regional airline industry is probably about 2-3 years away (maybe less) from paying $50,000 per year to start. I hope it happens, but as pilots we've always been our own worst enemies in the past....."will fly for food" or something like that.

Endeavor is essentially there already. The regional industry is 2-3 years from destruction. It will still exist but in a form much smaller.

I left the military. I'm now in the 1st Civilian Division and I'm a pilot.
