This too... with flying being so safe now due to all the major technology advancements, making the job an order of magnitude easier than it was 2-3 decades ago, there is also a skills/pay issue.. Pilots today aren't what they were in the day when they earned "a cadillac a month" and the only way to keep wages up is thru unionized force.. if we let the pure free market work, we'd all make a lot less.. even the majors.
That's why we can't fill classes. Cause we make to much money. LMAO

The only shortage that exists now is one of pay is my point if that was lost on my above comment, so on that we do agree.

Even flight pay loss can be too high. I mean someone worked years to get to say $90/hr flying. But what makes them worth $90/hr negotiating contracts?
Did they spend an equal amount of time studying to be a negotiator to get to that pay scale? Probably not.
But then I guess I'm going to get a lecture about how ALPA has done is all such a great service.
Still something puzzles me. After all these years. Don't we learn anything?
Eagle/PSA/PDT all get the same f/o bonus offer. Why, why, why doesn't all three MEC's get together in the same room and discuss how to proceed. Why after all these years are Alpa carriers keeping secrets. What great unity.

they aren't ONE union and the must represent THEIR pilots interests only and put them ahead of the other carriers.. That is how it works and it's dysfunctional as hell, but it is what we're straddled with under the RLA. There is no national pilots' union, we can't strike the way other unions in non-transporation fields can, and we have no muscle in DC like the larger and more traditional unions.

You obviously don't know how Flight Pay Loss works. You only get paid for the amount of flying you lose off your line. If you do ALPA work for a week but only lose 4 days of flying you only get paid for those 4 days, not the entire week.
