You hit the nail on the head with "great contract". Eagle had a great contract too, but unfortunately the lowest bidder will get the contract. AWAC's inability to compete with others because of their operating costs soon will dissolve. It's sad to see legacies such as AWAC go by the wayside.

Sad indeed. You can thank your brothers and sisters at PSA for that. Remember what they did the next time they come looking for a jumpseat...

Blaming someone else rather then taking ownership...at least you're consistent with the typical PSA pilot

AWAC is hoping for a deal with the same people that caused the whole situation between the wholly owned AAG airlines. Nothing good can come out of it. I wish them luck, I really do, but just remember that AAG always wins and the regional pilots always lose.

I am not at AWAC, but I have some close friends there - guys that I used to fly with. Their feelings from what they are hearing from management is that there will be a deal, but it is only going to be for a couple of years. AWAC is not the cheapest option, and they are not going to give a 10 year contract to an expensive subcontractor.

I have no direct knowledge, but I can not imagine AAG giving up the lift that AWAC provides.

I'm sure there will be an extension. AAG can't afford to lose the lift AWAC provides at least not yet. Rumor I've been hearing is a 5 year deal. Which kind of makes sense if they are trying to build up PDT. We are hearing PHL and DCA as hubs for the 145's. But the problem is where will PDT get the pilots?? Should be interesting. I just hope if it's only 5 years maybe some kind of Pref. Hiring can also be given to the AWAC Pilots at American.

Congrats on the offer! I've been here 2 years and have really enjoyed it. You'll actually make enough here as an FO and somewhat enjoy your life. A lot of movement and they are continuously hiring so you'll get some seniority in reasonable time frame.

Absolutely nothing, I mean nothing adds up to the notion we are closing Dec 31st. We have a 2 year extension that is at the SOLE discretion of AWAC to utilize. Parker can't do jack about it. We met all the performance parameters to gain the extension. Now it's only for two years so after that, this place really could close without a new contract with someone. That's for another time.

Now could the owners decide not to utilize it? Sure, but *** would you? If they want to be done there's no reason not to ride it out another 2 years and continue to make money.

I look at it this way. There is no reason in hell you continue to hire and keep running classes into the summer if we're closing in 7.5 months. Zero reason. For all the people that say it's to try and keep the operating going when people bail - come on and really think about this for a second.

A new hire next month is reasonably not going to be out of the sim until mid-late August. Our training department is a total disaster right now and every class lately has had sim/instructor availability issues.

So your really going to invest in all of these new hires who won't even be getting off OE until September and even later (for summer classes)? That makes absolutely zero sense. They are getting no return on their investment. It's not cheap hiring someone and getting them on the line. There is no way were hiring guys only to help out for 2-3 months on reserve.

I was a June hire. I finished OE Sep 28th. Another poster here said after he gets his last 250hrs that he's looking at a tentative August class. He might start OE in December.

Not shutting down Dec 31st.

All I can tell you is that most of the pilots at AWAC are not that worry about 2015, company keeps telling us that there will be flying past 2015. Does not mean it's going to be for the 71 airplanes!!! Go where ever is more convenient and safe. Don't take the quick upgrade, don't know what your background is, but signing that realease always puts your ticket on the line. At least be an FO for two winters before you think about upgrading that's my two cents. In 5 years everyone is going to have a Job at a major or close to it. Good luck, also do not move for a regional, sing on bonus usually means low salary and bad contract, stay away from training contracts.

Waiting anxiously was the term the one of the CA's I interviewed with used when asked about the contract.... So am I.
Congrats on the job offer...however.

I haven't seen the other parts of the company presentation but pay and benefits have an equal if not greater benefit than upgrade time. Yes some other places move you up faster, but that doesn't mean you move-on any faster. Plus you are going to want to enjoy where you work...I haven't heard that often from pilots at other companies.

Curious that you require that the upgrade time "needs" to come down from four years...that is a pretty interesting demand. What happens if you don't upgrade in that amount of time at the airline you choose...ask for a refund?

Pick a job...work the job...be thankful for all that you learn and gain...then move on.
