For those who already work at Republic… are you guys happy with your QOL? Flexible schedule? That’s important for me
Also, are there many shorter trips (1-3 day ones)? Especially at DCA
What about reserve schedule? Do you actually fly on reserve or just sit and wait?
Thanks!

Dca is at least 7-8 months to obtain. I’ve been bidding for it since I got here and still nothing. Lowest seniority number there was an April hire. If your goal is to stay at rpa you can have a great qol. You don’t have to worry about getting flight time and moving on. If you want to make it to a legacy or another major you’re looking at years because most new hire fos are flying less than 10 hrs a month. Don’t know where you live but commuting to sit on your ass for 5 days is pretty ****. New contract is going to change things for a lot of people but it isn’t really improving on a whole lot it’s simply matching the current industry standard. As far as the lack of captains and flying time maybe the new contract will help maybe it won’t. Either way it’s going to take a year or more to recover the lost ca if it can stop the bleed
Ooof… Well, I guess if not DCA, I’d be leaning towards CMH or IND. What are the junior bases these days? I’m pretty open minded, and I’m planning to move to base, but I don’t want to go to NYC area.

Aside from that, a friend of mine who IND based and junior to me by a week was awarded 85 hours of credit at 18 days off. It all comes down to the base, really,
The TA is looking like it’ll pass and with that, the ability for senior FOs to bid No-Fly lines. This’ll allow more junior FOs to actually obtain a line sooner.
It’s anyone’s guess how the TA impact the pilot group from a flying standpoint, but the expectation from the company is that CA bids will increase significantly. Time will tell.
All that aside, RPA is amazing and has the best work rules out there. I definitely don’t regret coming to RPA and if I had to do it again, I’d try to get here sooner!

I absolutely love the flexibility I have here at RPA. Not always perfect, but I get 98% of the day I want off (I’m one of the more senior of the junior folks… i.e. I can hold whatever reserve days I want, but not a line). That said, I always drop my reserve days and pick up trips. Have to be willing to work out of base to build yourself a line successfully..

If you don’t mind also sharing, how many days trips tend to be? I’ve heard that Republic has shorter trips than other regionals

LGA is severely short staffed and as an example this month of out 500+ trips available there were only 9 total trips available that were at least 3 days commutable on both ends. That's with a 1030am or later report on Day 1 and a release time of 830pm or earlier on the last day. There aren't a ton of places that are able to commute that early into / that late out of LGA I'm just luckier than most. Even then I still lost 3 days off this month to the lack of commutability. Other bases seem to have more commutable multi day trips like EWR and DCA. BOS has very poor commutability. PHL is such a tiny and senior base that it's hard too. ORD is also small and senior.
Also take everything SoFlo said with a grain of salt. FOs being able to drop reserve is an anomaly due to the current staffing. On the CA side they are unable to drop reserve or drop any trip. There's zero scheduling flexibility. If he's right and the new TA which is still below our peers in compensation passes and it fixes the staffing imbalance then FOs will lose their current ability to drop reserve.
