No calls from the majors so my thinking is that getting some 121 time could help my resume.
I have read the republic threads and how management has some real problems. I have more than 2000 hours turbine PIC time so the upgrade is not my first goal. Looking for better quality of life with some type of schedule and getting some 121 experience on my resume.
So what are your thoughts especially from current republic pilots. Is pit junior? Is the 170/175 possible for new hires? What is realistic take home pay for the first year? Days off? Health insurance for my wife, son and I? Probably is a step back for me. 5100 tt but trying to get a call from a major and better quality of life. I should also state that republic wouldn't be my first choice because I hear commuting is terrible. This is why i am giving them a second look. Thoughts?
Have you tried going to a job fair? Perhaps look into Spirit or Frontier if you haven't already.

This..... You're over qualified for a regional and will probably be disappointed. Try the LCC route or maybe even Atlas or Southern. The new contract is probably nice at Republic, but the same business model is in-place.

The regionals are by far the easiest route to get a little 121 experience to "check the box" on future apps. With the pic time in the book already, he's not trapped waiting for the magical upgrade that may not happen for a decade.
Just have realistic expectations. It's a regional. You will be mistreated and be paid next to nothing. It's doable if you live in base and DO NOT GET COMFORTABLE. Get in, get a type, get some time and get out at the first opportunity. Job fairs and 121 experience are the key to landing a spot at a reputable carrier.

Fixed it for you. Anyone who blames ALPA for their poor contract only has to look in the mirror or across the crew room to see who is really responsible.

YOU voted for the LEC who appointed a lousy Negotiating Committee then agreed to send you a substandard contract. And YOU are the pilots who continue working for substandard wages and benefits.

If the regionals didn't have the pilots willing to be abused don't you think they'd sweeten the pot?

Really? This is the real world of deregulated airlines. And the race to the bottom is lead by the pilots, not the airlines.

May be the easiest but with his experience I think it is a waste of time if he plans on leaving. I'd look into JetBlue, Frontier, Virgin America, Spirit, Allegiant (only if you live in one of their bases), SunCountry, Atlas, etc. I'm sure there are more but that's all I can think of. At those places you can make a career if Delta, UAL, AMR never call.

Dude go to a fractional or something but for gods sake don't go to a regional with the experience you've already got.

Regarding the recover, besides the stock outgoing I think I said I had the feeling that a company is recovering looking at pilot being hired and class being full.
Do you work at RAH? if you do so good for you, and I hope to see you soon.

I'm sorry I hurt your feeling by sharing my interview experience and sharing my "understanding" of the situation.

Alex
Not to come down to hard on you because I remember what it was like to be all gung-ho to start working 121. But if you are banking on RAH turning this around based on a .30 cent increase in their stock over the past week (when it was $14 just a year ago), then it will be an eye opener for sure.

Management doesn't do things out of the goodness of their heart. There was a reason all those loopholes were left in the contract and there was a reason your NC didn't sign off on sending the contract out to vote. Pay rates are nothing and work rules are everything. It appears that RAH pilots did have some wins like cancellation and deadhead pay, but those aren't really wins compared to other carriers. From what I hear, it is bad news there and it won't take long for that new car smell to wear off. But regionals in general are a bad idea anyways.

Allegiant has opened an A320 base at Pit. Had a friend who flew with republic go there and he got PIT out of training.
