Phonetically, it's something like gree-aats. With red eye gravy, they actually can pass as food.

But in the ATL, they run it all together like it's one word: Mom'nem.

"Cheese grits" is about the only way I can eat them.

I love 'em.....but I was born and raised in NC. Also, throw some bacon, cheese and Tabasco in there. Awesome!

Dang Buzz, you are making me hungry. My wife (NC gal) makes some mean grits and liver mush. Not many folks know what that is. Being from Texas it took me a while before I would try it, but I'm sold on it now
