I had a 2.7 and got the job. Maybe they realized they needed to raise their standards after me.

Just goes to show you that they aren't handing out jobs. If they see something they don't like and can hang it on something other than"just a feeling' they will give that impression.

Show up w/ your A-game...for those w/ a promised interview - this isn't a Slam-Dunk. Know your stuff or go back to your RJ.

Baja.

They don't have a RJ to go back to.

Absolutely true. You'd think they would know this given that they have a very good engineering school right in their backyard. Like you I'm a heck of a lot prouder of my 3.1 from a top 25 university than I would be of a 3.99999 from just anywhere. Surely someone weights the GPA's?

Class ranking should be a better metric.
I claimed I was in the top 90% of my class, they probably missed the implication!

That's because it's a BS rumor. I seriously only had a 2.02 GPA. Solid C student. Why? Probably because I didn't care to study any harder than the necessary minimum. Had more important things to do, (for an 18 to 21 year old,) like beer and women. Even the guy who graduates last in his class from med school is called "Doctor." Now that the drinking age is 21, maybe I would have done better.

Regardless, no one will ever know the true reason they got turned down. Plenty of people think they know the reason, but that is just their self justification. A company can open themselves up to any matter of lawsuit by telling an applicant why they weren't hired.

Keep in mind that the moment you step foot on Virginia Ave, the interview has started.Interviewees stick out like sore thumbs and are as obvious as flashing neon signs. Anyone and everyone who you interact with or who observes your behavior or overhears you talking can be a potential interviewer.

Case in point: During my interview, after lunch and right before the face to face, I was in the bathroom. As I was finishing up a gentleman came in. As I went to wash my hands, he said, "Good luck today," and I thanked him. Twenty minutes later, as I walked into the interview room, that same gentleman was sitting at the table. He grinned at me and said, "Good thing you washed your hands!" as he shook my hand.

Good luck to all the aspiring applicants. I feel comfortable that I speak for all Delta pilots when I say, "Welcome! Good luck and hurry up and get on-line!" Just keep in mind that the interview is not over just because you aren't in the "official" part of it. How you treat the cashier at the speedline is just as important as how you interact in the face to face. You never know who is watching you.

A Delta captain reviewing my résumé at WAI circled my graduate GPA and said, "Good GPA." She kept the résumé and put it in what she called, "the good pile."

I'm hoping they look at the most recent grades. My undergrad GPA was just below 3.0. I haven't received an interview invitation.

I had the same experience at OBAP. Delta was very formal about what they circled... GPA, Chief of Stan/Eval, evaluator hours etc. I did feel like they were circling variables in an equation to an extent.

Actually I think it's worse.... I went to college with 21 drinking age, all that does is force the 18-20 yr olds to keggers and unauthorized binge drinking parties where IDs aren't involved. Once you turned 21 it was almost considered lame to show up at those parties, so booze cost a lot more when buying it at a club or bar, hence I drank quite a bit less than the first few years of school before I turned 21.

Or your guard/reserve unit, ACMI carrier, LCC carrier, other legacy carrier......

Just like they hire from all backgrounds, they ALSO reject from ALL backgrounds. NO ONE has a monopoly.
