I'm a little new to this, but this sounds like a flow-through program. Is that essentially what we're talking about here?

Negative, not a flow.

In the past, whether it was the DAL flows/AA flows, or CAL flows, once a pilot's number comes up they go to class. No interview, screen, whatever. AGAIN, under a "flow".

A "pref interview" is usually a completely different matter.

Quote: seeing how those planes are to be sourced from ExpressJet, guessing its just a shuffling of the flying. So not necessarily reflective of extensions or not or scope choke etc....
It doesn't affect what was already planned for XJT well over a year ago. UAL was pulling the planes from them regardless.

Quote: So what is going to become of expressjet? Is this the writing on the wall for those folks there? If so its a sad day indeed!
More whipsawing at the regional level.....
See above, that writing went on the wall long, long ago.

Quote: Sad day for ExpressJet, indeed...
See above, this announcement isn't anything new for XJT. As mentioned, it's simply a reshuffling of planes that XJT lost long, long ago.

Thanks for the explanation! From the original post I didn't get the impression that it was a preferential interview. The OP said that the candidate gets an automatic CJO once program requirements have been met, which sounded a lot like a "flow" to me. I guess the big difference is that the program candidate still gets screened by UAL, whereas a "flow" would not?

Thanks again and cheers.

With the entitlement generation we see today I'm surprised it's as restrictive as it is. I'm really surprised date of birth isn't demanded as their seniority date. After all they have been in the industry for 2 years...... It's their turn to skipper the 777. "What.... You mean I don't have weekends off as a line holder with commutable trips? That's BS". Welcome aboard.

Most guys I fly with were hired in their early to mid 20's after spending a couple years at a commuter, or flying night freight.

Average age of our flows? 49.

It's funny, every "older" generation always thinks the younger one is entitled, forgetting how they were back then.

All things considered, the younger generation has worked harder, for longer, for less money, than their older counterparts by far.

But hey, if it makes you feel better about yourself, go ahead and look down at us.

Ah, how soon do we forget just how ignorant, entitled and without a clue we were when we started this career.

Take a moment to be human and remember back to some of the silly crap you said and did when your logbook was in the triple digits.

And guess what? If you think that wasn't you, you're THAT guy. And probably STILL saying dumb crap. *****ing about those "Barbie jets." Complaining loudly on the employee bus about how you got screwed out of your meal by the evil flight attendant. About how rough your life is. "But, hey, at least I don't have to come back to work at this ___hole for three weeks!" As the rampers who just worked a twelve hour day and are coming back to do it again tomorrow just sit there shaking their heads.

Optimism, youth and folly are to be smiled at and indulged. Remember, you wore their shoes once. And if you can't find anything to identify with when you encounter these fledgling aviators? Do the rest of us a favor and retire. Enjoy your fourth wife before she ends up with same mental illness that afflicts the rest of your exes.

No problem.

And to answer the bold, traditionally, a flow dodnt get screened when their number was up. They were simply notified when it was time to go.

Delta has/had flows, mostly Compass and Mesaba. When it was time to go, they go. Unless they were withheld for staffing reasons per the agreement of course.

Delta ALSO had a pref interview program for their Endeavor Air/Delta Connection carrier, called the SSP, Streamlined Selection Process. Those pilots have to complete day 1 of DAL's interview process, but not day 2.

Your are right... I did complain about the "Barbie Jet" but that could be because of two furloughs that kept me on the street for 7 1/2 years. The rest doesn't really describe the generation of pilots I was hired with. It's funny how the media has nick named the younger generation of the work force that is coming along now as the "Me Generation".

If you want to stick with that line of thinking that's fine. Just remember who raised the "Me Generation".
