I think this guy will look back on this is one of the best things that ever happened to him. He'll retire with his head held high that he did was he felt was right and the admiration of those under his command. He'll also have an O-6 pension and likely fall into a high paying gig and maybe become a news "analyst." He'll also realize how much time he now has to devote to his family. I mean why would you want to stay in a service that twisted what you did and raked you over the coals for something that someone else leaked?

Quote: Or any military leader for that matter. It could be argued that the world in general and Curtis Lemay in particular were lucky some of his advice wasn't followed. Captain Crozier's diagnosis probably made the whole question moot in the end. Certainly he'll have enough TIG to retire as an O-6. For that matter he may have intended to call it a career at the O-6 level anyway.
He already has the TIG.

CVN CO selection involves a very long pipeline (10-ish years) including the full navy nuclear power program, which is pretty gruesome with high attrition for new college grads with engineering degrees. Pilots only do that training after squadron command, about 20 years after college. Few people would subject that themselves to that if they didn't intend to serve as a flag officer afterwards. A carrier CO who didn't screw anything up is about about the safest bet you can find for flag selection, not 100% but pretty close.

Which only compounds the mystery of his actions, he was giving up a lot, unless he had previously decided he'd rather be an airline pilot than an admiral anyway.

if so, his timing of that decision sucked too...

He leaked it, intentionally or recklessly. If he had just pushed the button labelled "SIPR" (or better yet "JWICS") this would never have gotten out.... unless someone was willing to commit full-on espionage to do that, which would not have been the CAPT's problem.

Whatever dude. If people in the chain would have been professionals and not leaked the info, we wouldn't even be talking about this. I mean, have you ever received an FOUO e-mail and thought to yourself, this needs to be in the media ASAP? I know, I know...now that the info about this carrier is out there, we'll be seeing fighters with Red Stars over the mainland any day now...

My statement still stands, he's going to come out of this spelling like roses. I see that the CNO recommended reinstatement...I wouldn't take it if were him.
