Quote: Speaking exclusively about the Aviate 0 —> Hero academy, how do we determine who is the most qualified for flight training?
This is my point. People here are talking like the airline is dragging the bottom of the barrel to come up with minority admissions. The reality is, some of us may have gotten into flight training with impressive resumes, but most of us were just inexperienced kids with an interest in flying and maybe a little potential. Going through the training & the industry was the process that separated those of us who wanted it most or had a little more aptitude from those who didn't. We can talk all day long about whether or to what extent corporations should be involved in creating this type of social footprint, but the idea that the airline can't diversify its zero > career ready training pool a little bit without putting a bunch of smoking holes in the ground is pretty regressive & obtuse, in my opinion.
Quote: how do we determine who is the most qualified for flight training? This is not rhetorical. .
i think it's all just left up to HR. You know those super-pro's that have thousands of hours of flying...their desk.

They use the "situational interview" to judge talent.

Tell me about a time.....No, not in junior high. Now, tell me about a time...No, not in high school. Now, seriously tell me about a time....No, not in college. Like when you had a job. No, not about a time when you were waiting tables. Now, seriously, tell me about a time where you had to use leadership... No not at your frat house. How about a time where you had to communicate....No, not while you were umpiring a little league game. Now, seriously....
Quote: Since this conversation keeps drifting to the idea of hiring minority pilots with reduced criteria, it bears repeating that the initiative in question is about finding minority candidates to include in the Aviate program that trains prospective candidates from zero to the career stage so that they arrive at that point equally qualified among their peers.

Hiring a woman with a wet ATP & poor flying skills over a dude w/ multiple engineering degrees & left seat heavy time has nothing to do with the Aviate diversity goal; but it is a much easier position to attack.
I also think you are missing the point that Aviate will require an application and whatever objective criteria that application will have will somehow have a stated goal of producing 50% minority/female pilots.
Quote: It’s a new day my man. Just a few years ago the regionals couldn’t find enough applicants. Technology has really made the process more efficient. These kids are at home flying virtual airlines in A380s and triples in Virtual as well as augmented reality. Had one show me how to start the gpu. He was in his early teens. He didn’t know the flows but knew the General concepts. For them the whole set up is simplified because they were born in to technology. All us old heads need to do is mentor them when they sit in that right seat. Someone did it for us. We are tradesmen
”old heads” and “flight simulator on your desktop” generally don’t meet in time and space... sounds to me like you are much younger than what would be the average UAL new hire.

He showed you how to start the GPU? 🤔

Please go ahead and explicitly state that you believe this necessarily requires lowering those objective criteria on behalf of said minority/female candidates.
Quote: if anyone wants to come to this profession they can come and compete for the training, for the hiring, and for the profession. No special gender biased/racial preference programs are required or needed.
How does one compete for the training? I get the hiring one but technically it’s a pay to play kind of deal for pilot training outside of the guard and military.
Quote: you guys sure are uptight. I didn't really care about the lyrics... Aside from "don't rush," they weren't all that clear anyway. I certainly didn't go google them to go pick the song apart, line by line. But if that makes you happy, sure.
skeet skeet!!!!!
Why is England’s late Prince Philip not “king” Philip if he is married to the queen?

It depends on the level of training you are seeking more than likely.

Flight school resources will be limited due to demand.

Many 4 year schools already limit enrollment. The students have to compete for a seat. For example, Louisiana Tech has a great aviation program. Limited enrollment to 200 students due to aircraft fleet size and instructor cadre and simulator availability. Students wishing to apply here must e compete for a seat. ACT/SAT and high school grades are used to determine if you can get in or not. Just cuz u want to fly doesn't mean you can always do it. Even if you have daddy's check book, you have to put in the work to earn your spot.
