Haneda cancelled...

Detroit – Tokyo Haneda from 22MAR11, Los Angeles – Tokyo Haneda from 23MAR11, is CANCELED. Tokyo Haneda departure from 22MAR11 is also canceled. DELTA’s inventory display is all Zero’d out from those dates.

Service to be resumed from 31MAY11 from Detorit, 02JUN11 from Los Angeles and Tokyo Haneda, with Boeing 777-200ER aircraft instead of 747-400 as previously planned.

Cheers

I kind of figured that was coming. The 744 is too large of an airplane for that leg until it's developed. Now, what does that do with the 744 fleet plan?
Quote: But nothing about the really big, most important items. We still haven't set any kind of objective with regard to restoration of our profession and our careers. Resolutions to get mid-contract partial pay restoration are ignored (excuse me, "received"). And input to the same effect is responded to with, "what are you willing to give up to get that?" I'll give you that some things are changing for the positive. But I still think our expectations are being managed, our input on restoration ignored, and essentially the same old playbook is being run. Like I said before, at least on the big ticket items... SSDD. From what I'm seeing, I'm not optimistic. Wish I could be.
So in short, you're saying money? How exactly are we going to just walk up to management out of Sec 6 & ask for raises? On what grounds would we do so? Can we even do it? IDK, that's why I'm asking.

Would you be happy if DALPA did ask for mid contract restoration, & the company said no? Just curious. Looking for pilot group input.

Put it on ATL-DTW.

Drive by post.

Saw a lot of the Delta commercials today on FNC. They're well done. Glad they're ours.
First, count your troops
Quote: This kind of thinking is a big part of what I think is wrong with DALPA. No successful company or organization achieves anything difficult and significant by sitting back and waiting to see what someone else does. That's ridiculous. We shouldn't be pinning our hopes to "pattern bargaining." We should be clearly defining our objective and going for it with everything we've got and with a sense of urgency. We have a lot of ground to make up. And we've been out of BK for almost half a decade! When do we start??
If your aim is fast restoration to pre-9/11 levels (which you do deserve), the vast majority of the membership must be ready and willing to engage in a long strike. If management knows beyond any doubt that you will do it, you may not have to do it (bluffing will not work -- they can count as well as you can). No union can create determined members, but only organize and lead them. Does the pilot group have such willingness? If not, better stick with the old "jacking up the house one corner at a time" strategy.

Yep, knew that was coming. Loads are not there with this going on. They will be though, and it is a smart move.

My guess is that the "What are you going to give up to get that?" was in the form of; "Are you willing to accept a an extension?" Maybe not, but the reality is that DAL will want a quid for a respectable raise. It is not giving something up, except to draw out the PWA.

The membership needs to decide if they would want to do that.
Quote: As you have pointed out, we have many, many new LEC reps in place. And yet very little has actually changed. We're still almost half a decade into compensation that was designed for bankruptcy and as an emergency measure to save the company from liquidation. And this new slate of reps still refuses to even ASK the company for a mid contract partial pay restoration. They take up the same, tired old mantra of "what are you willing to give up to get that?" Sounds to me like SSDD. Maybe the structure per se is okay. But the culture appears to be too ingrained to be able to penetrate. I see very little change from the same path Lee Moak put us on. And I think that spells disaster for any chance of real unity. You can't unite this pilot group around the idea that the rest of our careers are going to be mediocre and we should just accept that.
Spot on description of our problem as Delta pilots. This is EXACTLY what ALPA wants us to "unite" around. T.O. is Moak's hand picked successor.

We will have an uphill road to climb in obtaining an industry leading contract because we will be fighting our own union every bit as hard as management.

The thing is, and this is imho, but it's a bankruptcy PWA.

Between pbs*, relaxed scope, pensions erased**, et. al., the pilots loaned out a lot to help the company be in position to succeed and there isn't much to give up.

We're already way way behind Southwest and our scope is horrible compared not only to SWA but to one of our outsourced carriers violating our scope- RAH.***

Back to angry birds and waiting for modern family.

*I still prefer PBS. yes, I know.
**Still don't want one, give me a 401K until that's taken away.

***And I know APA sued over RAH and lost but that was years ago. RAH has grown a lot to E190s and Airbuses. It's worth the fight.
