In short, no. Sometimes you might be able to make it work with alternate travel but don't bank on it.

Atlas will fly you to where your trip begins (on your time) and give you a hotel once you get there so you get required rest. Then they will fly you home when your trip is complete (and give you a hotel, again if a flight isn't available that night). They will also provide a hotel while you sit reserve. I don't know any 121 operator that does that. This kind of stuff is what keeps guys at Atlas even when the big 5 are hiring. I've got buddies who hated life as a commuter at the "big" airlines. Easy peasy at Atlas.

Yes, they do, but it might not be on the first and last day. What he was meaning was it is easier to commute when you are based in the lower 48. Most of the flights to ANC you will have to do a 2 leg commute which really sucks. Even though you aren't paying for it. Of course, if you live in SEA then it would be an easy 1 leg flight.

Atlas wants you to get required rest before the start of your trip. Depending on where your home “Gateway” is, where you are based and when the trip starts, you may have to travel on a day off to get to your base with time to rest. That’s why everyone says to plan on being away from home 18 or 19 days a month even though it’s a 17 day line.

This isn’t a question of Atlas buying your ticket. They buy your tickets, the difference is when you have to be in position to start your trip.

Atlas Gateway requires you to be in base on Day 1 10 hours prior to report (Unless your trip starts with a DH). When I was ANC base living on the east coast, that required me to leave my house 4am the day prior to Day 1 just to work my way up to ANC to meet my 10 hour rest requirement.

When I got JFK, I was able to get to base for my 10 hour rest require on the same day of departure depending on time of report. Same goes for Chicago.

For someone living in ANC, that commute time shortens up quite a bit with gateway travel.

On the last day of the trip, being JFK or ORD base. I was able to land and go straight to the terminal for catch a immediate flight home unless I landed late at night. When ANC base, that wasn’t the case. It usually required a full days travel to get home to the east coast.

I’m looking forward to 11/1 to be out of ANC. Those middle seat last row economy seat from palm beach to anchorage were horrible…

Works both ways though. I bid back to ANC, I was losing almost $10k a month in BLG alone by being based at a more senior base, and those most of the time upgraded to first commutes are easy.

I am hoping to apply at Atlas here pretty soon however I have a question about future class dates. My wife and I are expecting a child in February 2023 and I am wondering if it's worth applying now or wait until next year around March 2023. Is it possible to push a class date if I do apply now and end up being offered a position at Atlas? Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I would apply now with an availability date as described above. They will either wait to interview you, or most likely interview and then place you in a class that fits your availability.

Outing myself here, I guess, but I'm in a transition class. We got sent home due to sim and instructor availability. We're due back right when one of our classmates is due to have their first child. The company is keeping him home for an extra month, paid, so that he can be there for that. When I asked for three days for the birth of my third child a couple years ago, they insisted I take a week at least. Chief pilot told me "We're not some sh!tb@g regional."

Apply if you want to be here. I wouldn't even wait.
