Quote: Any pilot trained and deemed competent should have no issues with LGA regardless of WX or traffic saturation.

Can someone explain what has changed at LGA other than crowded ramp and taxiways? Visual approach guidance systems have improved. One can tune up the ILS 13 as a backup for the river visual. And hey... How about runway extensions now available as standard equipment on most FMS equipped jets at on extra charge.

OK.... newbies to LGA should be briefed on the crappy expensive airport food at LGA... I'll give you that.

You want to talk airports? One of my favorites was the old HKG checker board approach with snotty wind and rain. Then there's VNKT before GNSS Approaches were a dream. And then there was MHGT, that is before they blew the top of the mountain off.

Sorry for off track of the thread.... Afterall, at the end of the day, LGA is another busy airport with good approach aides which should prove to be a non-event event provided the brief and preparation is accomplished before ToD.

The stuff in the air is no sweat. It's the buffoonery on the ground that's hard to deal with.

Bingo! No change in that issue in the many years operating in and out, and over the airport when flying seaplanes.

That "checkerboard" approach was sporty in a DC-9. I can't imagine doing it in a 747 or a DC-10.

Great fun in the 757.

Quote: Along this line, I'd like to nominate the TOTD as the ex-AF SWA cptn who deemed it necessary to taxi around like a [deleted] banshee, cut the taxi lines, be rough on the brakes and tiller, throw the FAs and PAX around like they're boxes on a Fedex or UPS jet, and then have the nerve to b!tch about a Delta Mad Dog that was taxiing "slow".

Later that day while we were taxiing out to the penalty box TO SIT FOR A WHEELS UP TIME, we got behind a UAL-Express ERJ that was once again taxiing like normal people do. His comment was, "He must be practicing for mainline". He didn't seem to appreciate my response of, "He's taxiing like every other carrier taxies. Have you not noticed that we're the ones that have a seemingly monthly taxiway/runway excursion or collision with another aircraft or surface equipment?"

TOOL! Slow the [sunflower seed] down! It's not missles strapped to the wings anymore!'
I hate the captains that do this especially on the ramp. Was deadheading Into Orf the other day on you guessed it, psa and he took this thing probably fast as a car on the highway into the gate, not even exaggerating . Not like there's rampers, vechicles and other aircraft around or anything.

NWA use to send new 747 CA's on the JS to Hongkong so they could see this approach. Invariably, they ended up doing the ILS to the reciprocal RWY.
