Wouldn't that merger require union negotiation for blending the seniority lists? I think we still have the ball.

Hmm, so it seems like we have a situation where Envoy caved on the first offer and PSA is trying to hold the line for better...

Quote: Sooo my question is, if the MEC turned it down, how is the company able to still go out and raise the NH bonus? giving everyone the middle finger.. Is there some kind of back door to this to be able to do it legally?
No back door.. I'm starting to think this is all just some kind of D*** measuring contest between mgmt and the union. Company flexes, Union Flexes, company gives middle finger...

But yes, a New Hire bonus doesnt need union approval, because they're giving someone a signing bonus that's not even on property technically, just a delayed pay out of it.

No there illegal, there just not contested.
A union worker hired to perform work under a union contract is subject to the CBA.

Quote: That's because plan B will cost them more money. Buy AWAC merge them with PSA and consolidate the lift.
The winner there is the guy that owns AWAC. But who knows mabye y'all will all get a Christmas card from him.
Your post would be 100% more entertaining if you were actually as witty as you think you are.

I don't think the signing bonus is terms of employment for a new hire.

So the company giving a bonus to someone who isn't an employee yet isn't illegal as far as I know. Now, if they go and give everyone in New Hire class currently the bonus as well, when they are hired and already a probationary member of ALPA, I can see that.

New hire bonuses fall outside the CBA and are legal unless the CBA specifically forbids them, it has been grieved before and lost.

Good job Travis and the NC. Proud that you stood your ground. While I'm obviously disappointed that the current FOs won't be receiving any retention bonuses, i do not think that FOs should have been the only ones to receive them. The 10K (15K if you already have 1,000 121 time) bonus is already behind the curve. Most other companies offer this or better by means of better first year pay AND bonuses. This will do nothing. The company will be forced back to the table to try and figure out this mess that they dragged themselves into.

It's not the employees status that matters. It's the work they're being hired for, that work is protected by a trade labor union. That work can only be compensated under the CBA.

Honestly guys, I don't think 10K - 15K is going to make a big dent in our ability to attract new hires. There are a lot of attractive offers out there right now, and PSA is still not even close to the middle of the pack.
