Yeah, and driving to that reserve/line gig, which will be my future in a short minute, BEST JOB IN THE WORLD.

The lifer captain gigs at SKYW are likely to get better. Experienced regional captains are soon to be the coin of the realm and SKYW has the ability to move quickly to reward them.

might have the ability, but it won’t. They (lifers) will be expected to work more days to keep the operation moving along. Eventually, as many are already talking about, the lifers will just quit.

Yup. Once QOL goes to crap they’re gone.

I think they’re going to have to match mainline FO pay or they’re not going to be able to keep the lights on. Already closing markets to cover the contract flying. The mainlines will need to be part of the solution before it all melts down. Things are getting real interesting.

It's possible Skywest will act foolishly. But they're the only regional with a real chance to keep the lights on .. ie with enough senior people to run the training machine required. And, crucially, they have the ability to offer targeted bonuses without negotiating an LOA. They can afford to pay their LCA's $250k/yr and they can do it the second they want to. If anyone survives this, it will be skywest, but it will be because a skywest LCA job becomes a legit career destination

“pilot shortage” triggers a lot of people. There’s not really a pilot shortage. There are plenty of people who want to be regional FO’s. The problem is captains and especially LCA’s.

An airline cannot magically replace every LCA every three months. You can only make as many captains as you have people with 1000 hours.

skywest is the only regional that might survive that

what are the odds someone who is currently a CA at their regional, watching it burn, would be able to upgrade fairly quickly at OO while they wait for the major / ULCC to call?
