You are right they didn’t mention the 550. But the aircraft they are talking about are the aircraft that were going on a 10 year lease to gojet!. OO leasing has delivered 13 700s so far to the 550 program. Due to financial issues 3 were returned as 700s. The total 16 700s no longer to be placed with gojet are expected to be flying in one year being flown by OO pilots. Plus we for some reason BOUGHT 7 700s (maybe 550s) from someone in q2.
The engines leased to gojet are coming back.
In one years time as United scope hammers our large aircraft numbers having so having a 550 program will be important to have.

That was a good read. Thank you for that!

So, an important take away for me is that skywest currently operates 471 aircraft and they anticipate coming out the other side operating 450 aircraft. That’s a net down-sizing of 21 airplanes.

I’ve never run an airline but a 4.5% contraction of fleet size doesn’t seem horrendous to me.

I know there must be a pile of calculations to determine overall company health, but we need crews to operate 450 aircraft. Maybe we can make it through without furloughs. Maybe.

I think all of this VTO/CPTO is really helping the cause.

450 the other side isn’t bad, but pre covid we were hiring for attrition and 500+ aircraft. So were caught with 5300 pilots on the list.. So question is will part time and a VTO float us through the other side...??...

What happens if everyone gets 70 block hours a month long-term? Is that a problem? Or a solution?

Or they’ll just keep showing people the door for playing reserve roulette.
