Skywest
UAL went to HS to recruit. They hired HS grads with PPL. They had them on the payroll, and trained them, then put them to work as Flight Engineers...then they worked their way up.
AA/UAL/DAL will have to either guarantee loans, or hire non-pilots, or very low-qualed pilots and train them...unless they can get the gov't or someone else to guarantee loans...and even guaranteed training loans may not get enough bodies into cockpits....

Skywest
Did they sell it like some kind of QOL? As for me, I get paid by the minute anyway.
More so if you've singed the NDA his attorneys have written up.

Hi Guys, currently approaching my ATP mins and looking to apply at SkyWest, but not too familiar with them. (grew up in the south) What are the junior bases a new-hire can expect to get? Average reserve times? And Im also curious since SkyWest flies for multiple carriers. Are trips exclusive? for example: you get a trip and fly exclusively on DLs routes? Or are they mixed in flying for DL UA AA all in one trip?

All in all, if we all could go straight to a major or legacy airline we would. A regional airline is a stepping stone, get in get out...I chose SKW over Mesa and Republic mainly because of domicile options, company reputation and pay. Remember, attitude determines altitude, don't let other people color your perception...
Don't take the OPINIONS you get here on APC for face value. Do your own research...good luck!

How does IAH look for a new hire? Reserve time and months to hold it as a base? Thanks!

What will get you through the process the quickest is the fastest upgrade, knowing what I know now, I would say go to TSA, great guys, and Hulas will inspire a burning hate for airline management that will propel you forward. Every regional sucks, some more, some less, go where you will get what you need the fastest.
While our upgrade time is right around 4 years, upgrade times can, do and will change. Hence the terms "don't chase a quick upgrade or shiny new jets". The most junior FO in IAH was hired in Nov 2014, not sure about reserve times.
