Last month in schoolhouse they said they needed to up the amount of people in 175 class but weren't currently able to because of instructors
It's no secret we have been behind the power curve with regards to staffing. That's nothing new. The balance we need is not to run too fat or too lean finding that balance is almost impossible because our staffing requirements is dynamic. So yes while we are chronically staffed on all airframes we are working on getting that fixed. Reference SL on the conference call yesterday!
But they often try to do the opposite, with predictable results. Pilots tend to be family men/women and often don't want to pull a bunch of OT over the holiday and summer seasons.

Flying for Alaska airframe number wise will stay same but Skywest trying to get Alaska to swap 700s for 175s, apparently that's final stages, heard that from MT. Other rumors are 10 more 175 for United as well as possible delta flying by swapping 900s for 175s. A company does not invest millions of dollars on 2-3 simulators to just get 50 odd planes.

Contract will make us more expensive, it's the possibility of staffing that will get us RFPs, of course the proposed agreement would have done that but if I've learned anything in these forums it's drop the upgrade time and they will come. Of course you'd need a lot of flying with such a big pilot group for that to happen so we shall see

But those are "conditional" airframes. In other words, they don't have to be assigned if there is no "new" flying. Or am I getting it mixed up with something else?

Who says you need a new "contract" to get new RFPs. Look at rah or xjt.
