Just so you know, I was asking you your reasons because I was given the choice of aircraft. I've been looking at pros and cons of each and thought you might have some insight.

CRJ.= very 80's. Hands on flying.. ERJ. Auto throttle, brakes, go arounds, coupled VNAV. But can't cross flow its own fuel....

Thanks for your info. Several friends told me to go CRJ for better QOL, faster upgrade with lots of people moving to ERJ, more bases to pick from, etc.. I like both planes and live in Chicago so just trying to make the best choice.

That comment was not directed towards you my friend. Sorry

The ERJ is way more advanced and for me, being typed on it opens up other opportunities that the CRJ will not. Also ive got a fridnd that flew the crj for skwest for 4 years and a few months ago switched to the erj. He says its a world of difference. He isnt working his but off by doing multiple legs per day. He does 2 legs 3 days a week
. SEA -MCI-SEA. He has lot more free time and a better QOL than he had on the crj

In general, long term, I would expect on-duty QOL to be better on the ERJ due to longer legs a and fewer of them than the CRJ fleet average. But if you're IAH (CRJ 700 only) it would be about a wash.

Off duty, you might get more days off/month on the ERJ. Maybe.

Other than that I'd pick based on where you want to be based. If that's a wash then I'd probably pick the ERJ, although your seniority progression will go generally go faster on the CRJ.

No worries. Maybe I'll see you in class.

Can go either way honestly. ERJ you have a higher base wage (soft time paid at ERJ rate) plus the ERJ trips are longer. CRJ you probably would be flying the 200 at first which is a lot of short hops. If you live in ORD and don't have plans to go anywhere else, it wouldn't matter how many bases you had to choose from on the CRJ. You would be able to upgrade into ORD on the CRJ quick since it is going junior.

Problem is things change so quick. What is good today will be wrong in 6 months. I was hired into the RJ and only spent a small amount of time in ORD on reserve. I think my QOL would have been a little better on the EMB because everyone transitioned into the RJ in front of me. The same thing could happen to you on the ERJ if we get more flying or expand bases in that plane. I personally think we will be getting more flying on the ERJ, or at least SW is planning on getting more flying. So it is possible you could end up being Jr on that plane for a long time.

Thanks Rick. The main thing that scares me about the ERJ is that a couple of people suggested that my seniority number could actually go backwards. Seems like that would suck for monthly bidding.

I gues the CRJ has become the Brasilia for new hires! Nobody wants to fly the old stuff.

Another key thing is SKY still has "Orders" for the ERJ. Nothing for the CRJ. So all growth with new planes will be ERJ. CRJ200 is the next E120. Maybe another 10 years??..??.. The 700/900's will be around awhile..
