The shinier the jet, the less experience you need to skipper it.

If you have a really nice pair of aviators, they'll just put you straight into captain training!

Except for the new FO who does better in the sim than the rest. They get to cut ahead to upgrade class.

Maybe even LCA.

SkyWest is a hand shake type of company. There is no bureaucratic Union rhetoric to stop motivated individuals from excelling. If you're motivated you can get better crew scheduling assignments and your name goes in a different bucket for upgrade.

Nothing official yet, but without the PDX Alaska flying we only have the occasional UAL RON in PDX, so there is a good chance the base will go all 175.

Our vacation policies still suck. You have to submit how much vacation you want per day a month before the bid. So this month I used 7 vacation days at 2.5 per day (17.5 hours) But I have no idea how much PBS is going to require for my line. Since PBS required 87 hours this month, I now had to work 70 hours in 23 days. I missed my layer one trips by a couple hours and had my bid drop to layer 5 by 1 hour. Would I have preferred to take an extra hour of vacation and kept my higher layer trips? Yep but I don't have that option because I have no idea what the hell PBS is going to require with our lovely global solution.

We need either a set amount of hours in our bid, (even a defined range would be fine) or PBS needs to globalize in reverse seniority. It sucks to see all my trips awarded to less senior pilots because PBS required less hours when it got down to their bid. Vacation is pointless if you have to just work extra hours the rest of the month. Of course this all just boils down to proper staffing which will never happen.

And even if I could use less vacation hours by bidding reserve, I would never volunteer for the mental abuse that is our reserve pool.

Serious question here...how do you know that? I got completely shafted in my last bid (all PN/CN) and have no idea what PBS went through in terms of how close I came to getting some trips...
